Holy cow. I jsut read back a few pages....plans sure changed a lot with this build. I am no longer using a GT-80. Instead I bought a DA-85 and a smoke pitts muffler. Also a pair of fiber optic servo extensions for the throttle and choke servos. Also running some smart fly servo equalizers for the ailerons and elevator servos. I have a huge puzzle to put together now. The smoke system adds a bunch as well as the motor choice. I need to find a mount for it or make one asap. I will get some pics soon. I am almost ready to put some more time into it....I mean I AM READY....but little ones and wifey need my attn. alot now.
More later, Kevin

Well I'll tell ya. Progress has been real slow on this one. It is back on the bench now. Got the hinge gaps sealed on the rudder and elevator halves, just ailerons to go now. Also got the rudder servo's hooked up and sync'd. Finally had the guts to drill more holes in the firewal and mount the engine. I hate drilling holes in airplanes and boats....just seems oposite of what you should be doing...lol. Here is a pic or 2 of what is happening. Kevin

NOW WERE TALKING !!! Sweet plane. Where can you get one of those, cause we can't get them in Canada. Me and a friend have been looking for one even resorting to asking Horizon to put one together from parts and they said "no way" . Nice plane !! Glenn

I now realize why they said no way. I just added up what it would cost me or you to build one from parts.....$1400.0!!!!!!!!!! Holy moly! If I crash this thing there is a good chance I will get something different with a cost of 272.00 for one half of the wing? Geez! After watching several of these fly I am very confident. I have one half this size and manage it well. These things float around like kites.
Well tonight Joe stopped by to help with aileron install and control horn drilling and install. We managed to get it all done. Only thing left on ailerons is to seal them and install linkages and servo horns....and set them all up to work in sync. Turns out I skipped a step in the elevator assy which is ok since it was only the part about using epoxy before installing the control horns....they can come back out...thank god! I wrote it in my notes so I won't forget. Very excited to see this one through.....

The 4 lipo's all together weigh 12 ozs with all plugs on. they are 2- 2100mah 2s for flight packs...one in each slot of the smart fly 1- 1100mah 3s for ignition (with power reg set at 6.0v) 1- 900mah 2s for smoke pump (tested in a 27% extra with same pump) Trying to keep it light as possible...if possible. All servo's are 5955tg's (8) except throtttle.....duals on rudder...I know it's overkill by miles....I'm ok with that. (back to the not as light as possible...) Got the ignition and optical kill all hooked up, heck all the wiring is done with exception to the throttle servo. Manual choke is fine with me. Kevin

Matter of fact I made more progress in the last 3 weeks than I did in the last year and some since I bought this thing. Finally have all the right things I want in it. Last night I took the 32oz tank out and swapped for a 24 oz one instead. May go even smaller in future. I hear from others running this engine it comsumes about 7 ozs in ten minutes of moderate flight. Moved the tank position to directly under the wing tube so cg won't be affected as much with fuel levels. In a debate right now of whether to mount the smoke oil tank aft or fore the cg point. May just wait until I put the engine on it's new mount (not here yet), put the cowl and everything else on and look at the balance point then place the tank and flight packs. The engine they rocommended for this is 4lbs heavier than the DA-85. May need all the weight I can get in back of the cg. Just in case that is the case I made the tank mount on the bottom so I can extend it if needed. Will take some more pics.

Just got an email from the guy making my motor mount. He had more difficulties than he thought he would have and canceled the attempt. I am now faced with making one myself with my mill. Hopefully I don't wreck 40 acres worth of maple trying. It will take some time I am sure but will be worth it in the end. That is pretty much the last thing to do to this monster...other than set up rates and expo's and such. Well off to the fishin hole for some more crappie! Will pick up wood later tonight or tomorrow to get gluing and clamping.

Kevin that is an amazing project you are doing there. I did not know you were into a RC plane that BIG. I look forward to seeing that thing fly, probably not as much as you though. GOOD JOB Kevin. Crappies for a fellow ESOX Hunter? I use imitation crappie lures for BAIT! Dad caught a 14.5" on a musky lure couple years back. Wayne

Here is a pic of my latest Esox Masquinongy. It was 49 1/2 inches and about 30lbs. What a good time. Turns out I have had big planes for some time in my attic.....just no guts up there to build and fly them.... I got the guts and knowledge to build and fly them now. Been hitting this hobby hard for the last 3-4 years. Still have a mini ventus up there I bought about 5 years back. Can't wait to finish that one too....it has a bigger span than this one but is electric and a glider. Kevin
