Being retired has it's advantages in that often there is a window of opportunity mid week and I can grab it. There's been a few days lately I'm happy to say and as it's usually fairly windy down here I'm getting better at flying in wind up to around 20 mph. I took up this hobby around 18 months ago and wrote off two planes in that time but a couple of weeks ago something 'clicked' and I've suddenly gone from just flying circuits to doing rolls and loops and low passes. really adds to the enjoyment.

The weather is the best it's been for months and I've spent the day ill in bed. Typical.
Hope for fair weather and less shakes and shivers tomorrow.

That's a bummer sham I was expecting a maiden flight report. Just to make it worse I flew all day today 'til my thumbs wore out. lol

Thanks for that sailor. Yesterday was lost due to illness but I'm feeling better today. And its raining! EDIT: I did get time to charge a couple of the little batteries for the old faithful Supercub. Two flights and the second was cut short due to rain. I didn't even try the other planes. Two things became apparent, first.. I'm not as rusty as I thought, it was pretty good. But mostly, and this is probably a good thing but feels like a bad thing, I think its time to put an end to this planes regular flying. It's too easy now. You can throw it around with no respect at all and it still comes back for more, the concentration levels aren't high enough to be enjoyable. It may still see action when the kids are with me (I can drop parachutes with it) or when I want a camera ship.. Or even when there is nowhere smooth to land (as long as you touch down level and slow, that thing is indestructible!!).. I love the plane, but I think its time to stop routinely using her as a warm up. I just think that I'd have got more from the SportCub. She's done me proud, and I'm still going to enjoy plenty more flights with her.. I'm hopeful my son will learn to fly with her too.

I hope it hasn't caused offence. It certainly wasn't meant to be derogatory. Merely that as my skills slowly improve, I find the easier plane less of a challenge - and the challenge is the fun. If I fly the SportCub first, the slight nerves of needing to be a little careful will keep me from doing anything stupid! And I'm always in need of that Of course, more than happy to eat my words if it all goes horribly wrong... Lol.

LOL ...no offense..was Joking around.
Just flying is a joy, no matter what it is.....
I guess i look at things different. Being challenged is not my motive or reasoning.
Just being relaxed and Flying that to me is all that matters, Just being able to, that's a Blessing to me.

It's not the reason for flying, but the challenge is certainly a big part of it. The biggest reason for leaving the Supercub at home sometimes will be because its just too good at being a trainer. Slam on full right and full down and then go full right and full up. Even under ½ throttle.
Lose control? Of course not... As long as you've given yourself a little fall room you can recover it amazingly fast. I still love the plane, but when I'm heading to the field with planes - I wont be always using it as a warm up.
Flying is relaxing, but if its also tricky then its better!

Almost quitting time at the rig. Looks like the weekend will be a wash also, according to the weather. I guess it'll be honey-do's for me. Bummer

I know what you mean sham. I now use the Sport Cub to warm up the thumbs then it's the Bixler. I've suddenly 'progressed' to loops and rolls and getting into knife edge's but now needing something more sporty so looking and saving. Not sure I'm yet up to a HK ARF 100 mph job but I'm leaning towards it. I enjoy the feeling of being near the edge which I'm sure you understand. :-D

I'm not into the very high speed stuff or warbirds, but graceful aerobatics in the old style rather than 3D is lovely.
A series of quarter rolls with knife edge in between and inverted while circling... Cuban S, loops and combinations of part loops and rolls, all good fun. Throwing a plane around the sky hanging on the prop and mental flips and spins is not my idea of fun. Scale planes doing scale flights and tricks.
Speed is nothing without control.
Good to see you enjoying the flying. The Sportcub is such a good plane. Such a good one.
Hoping this weather holds for the weekend, might actually get to fly!

The floats will be put on the SC for some pond flying!
