I'm going with a gray and black combo for mine. I was going to add in some orange also, but not so sure at this point. I was going to look at adding some pin stripes, but they only had two colors at WalMart tonight and I didn't have time to go to AutoZone to look at what they had available. Putting my float halves back together from having cut them to put the spars in at the 15 degree angle to the tip of the pylons/floats. Too cold, windy and dreary to get out today and try to do anything with the SC. I could not believe that I couldn't find my glue for this task, but looks like it was packed away on our last move. I had to make a special trip to Wally World to pick up what I needed.

I am new here but here aswell. My super cub turned up today .I doubt I will get to maiden it tho for a while with the weather.Theres a few things I want to do first tho.I want to do the lolly pop stick or ice cream box mod for the fuse at the rear of the wing.Do they both work just aswell as eachother? The ice cream box seams a better idea to me as its curved the same shape as the fuse and I don't really want to cut any foam away to make the lolly pop stick sit flush.Any other must do mods while I wait for the weather?I have some parkzone fun cub wheels on the way as I love the big wheel look. They are 3 1/2" and not very heavy like the big DU-BRO's.I also have some multiplex fun cub decals on the way as I like the decals on that and find the super cub ones prity boring.Oh and I am going to get some packing tape for the leading edges of the wing.Silly question but is it just normal clear packing tape I want?

The only strengthening mod I've done is clear packing tape on the leading edge, and I've not needed that in all honesty.
Strengthening means adding weight, and the cub is at its best light. The only advantage to the saddle mod is to avoid crushed foam, which can be fixed in seconds with a hairdryer. Big wheels are a good idea, my Sportcub lands a lot easier than my Supercub, even though the latter has 63mm wheels.
Of course, its up to you, but that's my viewpoint - there are a lot of people who advocate all kinds of strengthening without realising that making a part of the plane solid means exposing the next weak spot in the plane... for example, a heavy landing on strengthened landing gear will rip the battery box clean out while leaving it standard will bend the gear at worst. Leaving it light means its more likely to just bounce.
When the weather allows, enjoy your plane - and happy landings.

Thanks for the replies guys.I get you when you say strengthening one area exposes another and to much will just add weight.I have seen bids with cubs completely wrapped in tape and I always thought that would be some serious extra weight.I will do the leading edge of the wing tho just in case.My landing gear will stay stock apart from the new wheels.I am sure I will have to mod them tho to make them fit but that's OK as I love modding things.

It has been too cold here also but one day last week it got up into the upper thirty, and after temps in the teens or in the twenty thirty felt good, so after work I went out the wind was low plus it wasn't snowing there was snow on the ground so I took the catalina it took off with ease on the snow and was graceful in the sky, I had a good time Spent a few minutes getting my head around your post; I'm thinking wtf temperature teens to thirties and snow! Then I twigged you use fahrenheit not centigrade. Still no flying for me either, been a couple of days with wind below 15mph but 3 C means it'd feel below freezing so no thanks. Thinking I'd better get the sim out before my thumbs forget what to do.

certain Mods for the SC are essential.....Enforcing the battery box / landing gear area....wing saddle...leading edge tape...for example
Others may not be as important.
Rains one day..snow the next...to sun ...to rain...to snow...again and again and again
Worse part is , the winds have been horrible here most of the winter. That is a bad sign.
All of last year, we had to deal with extreme winds..even into the night most of the time
Hope this year is different...

I don't quite know what to do, as our weather is expected to get to an overly cool temp of 70 degrees or higher this weekend. My oh my, I am not quite certain how to dress for it. Perhaps a Hawaiian shirt would be appropriate with shorts, but that would mean I'd have to get off my lazy butt and dig through my closet to find my flip flops and straw hat. Probably have to drink one of those fuzzy drinks with the umbrella on top, too. The only snow I see is on top of a snowcone these days. Mean, nasty, ugly winter weather down here in Texas these days, for sure. Anyone jealous? :-)
For any excuse one can make to not do a mod, there are equally balanced excuses to do them. All have their own pros and cons and each is up to the individual to decide for themselves as to what fills the bill for them. Expericence is ususally a personal thing, so what works for one may not work as well for another, but to choose or not to choose is still the question. Lots of the mods are contained here and on YouTube. Lots of the pros and cons are discussed here, as well. Trying to influence anyone with one's own experience on mods is probably just wasted effort, as most will still do exactly the opposite if it pleases them to do so. I have done several of the mods and I like most pretty well. Some I just don't, but to each his own.

Are the winds blowing in Texas ? ....warm or cold no real issue, but the winds now that is a difference maker.
It was actually 49 degrees here today...it was like a heat wave.....felt almost like summer...But , cold winds reminded me, it was still winter .

Best flying is early morning and late afternoon most times. At least where I'm at.

Are you up near Tyler or Henderson? Weather shifts so differently in this state. Dallas was so warm today, but we have rain and cold and wind down here today. Different for the weekend though. I may even get to mow my dead grass this weekend if the weather guy is correct.

It's survived well over a hundred flights unscathed, completely, but if they're essential I shall get right onto it As for the weather... The slight break in the wind coincided with too much other stuff to do and now the forecast doesn't look good for a while yet.

I may even get to mow my dead grass this weekend if the weather guy is correct. I live 12 miles west of Tyler in Chandler. We mostly fly 15 miles NNW of Canton, north of Edgewood. There's always some breeze wind up there by the lake. And its usually out of the south.

My sister-in-law lives in Henderson. Someone had told me of a fly field in Tyler quite a while back. I was hoping to maybe visit it one day when we came that way to visit her or to go to Canton. Nice country when we vitisted Jefferson and spent the night at a bed and breakfast there. Lots of big lakes in that area. www.tylermodelers.com/
