Stop wasting your money on wing struts! Wings Struts will cost as much as a car if we spend too much! Use the ideas that our fellow kind pilot posted here on SCC! Wing Struts aren't as important as those rubber bands! Rubber Bands can affect your dihedral much more. Use the SC rubber bands, not the ones for susing as beautiful bracelets!

In fact the wing struts are much needed if you like your wing. I takep the crap out of my underside and still have clapped wing tips coming out of a dive.
Keep em on, Kevin

rcfast123 doesn't seem to have seen his wing fold.......yet. Incomplete advice. You can do that ONLY if you SERIOUSLY strenghten your wing first. IMO with the tendency of this group to mod and grossly overpower their Cubs tape is NOT enough, put some carbon/bamboo struts in there....MINIMUM, or stay with the crappy struts (but make your own). HZ struts are lousy.
Rubber bands don't do squat for your wing other than hold it on. If you use lousy rubber bands you will get appropriate results.

Actually FlyDiver, I was reffering to your advice all this time. What I meant to be reffering to was that we Cub pilots should use some ideas from our forum on making your own struts. Rubber Bands are madatory of course! Have a good one and take care.

Thank you. You posting is kind of confusing though. It sounded like you were telling people that they can just stop using the struts as long as they use good rubber bands.

i highly doubt struts had anything to do with a crash unless you had your wing not centered....

i highly doubt struts had anything to do with a crash unless you had your wing not centered.... admiral Admiral is spot on, however if this the case, is not the struts that caused it, but a pre-flight check error. I am intrigued to know how you came to the original conclusion. Remember that many people use this site for reference, so any posting that is inaccurate has the potential to mis-lead other readers with possible disastrous effects. Please explain why you think the struts caused you to crash.

the struts most likely had nothing to do with your crash. any particular reason you're blaming them?

WELL I REALY HAVE NO CLUE iam not sure i why did it crash do u think i should try putting the struts on again? Unless you've strengthened the wings you will get them flapping without struts as soon as you do any quick maneuver. In short, yes.

Suggestion for struts: * Cilp off the plastic hooks on the stock strut. * Using a "blue" hoop style automotive wire connector, remove blue covering, expand crimp on connector, clip the hoop to make a hook. Slide connectors onto strut end; don't crimp yet. * With the strut attached at the fuselage and adjusted to it's outer-most length, slide the connectors out and into the wing mounts; crimp. * Tension the strut at the fuselage where you want it and secure with screw.
Looks good and works great. They are stronger then the stock hooks but will give a little bit if they need to; you know, in the event of a hard, or tree, or tall grass landing...
