So I wonder why HZ go to the trouble and expense of adding that flimsy foam panel with three holes? Surely they must have some purpose.

well, if they left it open it wouldn't be as aerodynamic, and it would probably look pretty crap. They could probably have made the mold such that that panel was filled in as part of the fuselage, but then you wouldn't be able to access inside the back of the fuselage to install the pushrods, satellite receivers or anything else you wanted to put back there.
In case you're wondering about the three holes, they're there for air flow, air's supposed to go in through the battery door and out through those holes to cool the internals, but I have mine covered over. I see no need for them in my cub since my ESC is in the cowl and I have a switching BEC, so nothing inside my fuselage really gets hot.

A rule of thumb is the exhaust should be 3X the intake for cooling flow.....and the intake needs to be sufficient for the task. Some planes seem to ignore this and components can get hot, esp. if pushed hard and the outside air temp is high. A lot of planes are nothing more than flying Styrofoam insulators.

OMG... It looks exactly like my plane!!! hehe;D I added a couple of pics of the Super Cub featured in the Vids. Again, nice work buddy! My cub is also the same as the vids but I'm going a few step further. I chose my scheme seeing a cub I loved on line. I then found your vids and when I got to the end; OMG! It's the same one! ;D I'm going with floats, like the pixs of the real plane and using it for a winter fun fly here in Syracuse NY this coming march. Bob Attachments:

Lots of names who've been here but no longer post. I recall someone did do a plexyglass conversion to their HZSC, John. You'll find a thread for it somewhere on here. It *may* have been Ellis.....a few years back now...

That is a really splendid result, phatbob.
Your model looks so much like the genuine Cub you were copying.
If she were mine, I would never risk flying her - she is too pretty to crash!
Congratulations on a job well done.

Hey i know this is an old thread but i was thinking about making my super cub yellow similar to the one in the first post. I haven't used econokote before but was wondering if its possible to coat the wing tips with yellow econokote and leave the centre of the wing as bare foam rather than covering in white like the youtube videos show. would there be any problems doing it this way or is there an easier way of doing this if i didn't want to coat the entire plane?

I don't see why that would be a problem.
