hi all,
i thought it might be a good idea for SCC to make a sticky titled something along the lines of "beginners start here"
In there we could have information, or links to posts, on the questions that are asked here by most newbies on a weekly basis. Some content that springs to mind is: *necubflier's three-part video on cutting a hole in the battery box, and reinforcing it and the wing saddle with epoxied popsicle sticks *links to rc flight tutorial pages with info on basic electronics, info on how aerodynamics work, stuff like that *links to wing strut mods
Anyone else keen on the idea? If so, what would be the best section to put it in? Tips and tricks?

PS OMG I just realised that I have more posts than SCC, the fearless leader of the super cub club... perhaps i've been spending too much time here?

Not sure about this. Part of the point of the forum is helping each other out, and getting to know other people on the forum. I think a sticky - where most of the questions are answered- would negate this community spirit.

I agree with dill's idea of a sticky.
Oddly enough, I had the very same idea yesterday when I read yet another newbie's frustration over trying to fit that oversized LiPo battery into the too-small battery box.
That question is asked so many times it alone deserves a sticky.
I take toff's point, but I also remember cursing and swearing for many hours as I tried to fit my first LiPo. If only I had been able to access a sticky quickly!
Newbies want to get up and running quickly, not post their question and wait for an answer.
So yes, I vote for stickies! (Just as I did when I was much younger, but for a different reason . . . )

PS: Nothing to add to my post above. This is just to add to my post count, chasing dill . . .

So what's the deal Paul (SCC), is it within your awesome administrative powers to make a sticky? Perhaps put it in the 'Introduce Yourself' section, since ideally that's where most new members will start. I think it would be best to keep the thread as brief as possible. No lengthy descriptions of anything, pictures or youtube windows. I think it would be best to stick to the format of a brief, clear titles, then links to the content. for example: ---- Basic mods to make your cub MUCH stronger, and fix the inherent battery-box problems: supercubclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=intro&thread=3808&post=27110General electric flight electronics information for beginners www.stefanv.com/#rcstuffThe ultimate hobbyzone super cub reference: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1338787----- I appreciate toff's sentiment that it could detract from the community spirit here, but I don't think that will be the case at all. The sticky should be there as a convenience to the newbies to make their transition to RC flight that little bit easier, I'm sure that it will in no way detract from from volume of silly questions that we've come to know and love as being an invaluable part of the SCC experience :-)

Hi Dill. I do have the power to sticky, but I'm not going to. I look at this forum as one BIG sticky. ;D For example. if you need to know how to fit ailerons, then all you have to do is click on Ailerons and read. Surely that's not too hard. Have a look at any of the boards on this forum and at the top of each board there is a sticky explaining how to post a pic and keeping it to 640X480. Now have a look at most pics. You will find most pics are massive. Cheers Paul

Hi Fellow SC owners:
I'm still a greenhorn and have made a couple of the suggested easy mods including changing out the wheels and changing the prop to a GWS 10 x 6 . Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I also have an Airfield 6 channel Cessna 182 2.4 that I have not even flown yet. Actually bought the Cub after the Cessna to learn on it first as the Cessna has ailerons and flaps. Maybe too much airplane for a greenhorn like me.
My boss, who is a seasoned flyer with 50 years experience handed me a new Futaba 6EX the other day. Nice boss, hey? So, now I want to retro the guts of both the Super Cub and Cessna so I have one common radio among these planes and future planes. When you change out the electrics on the SC, do you also have to replace the servos and esc? I was hoping that the futaba rx or "orange fasst" look a like rx would be all I needed.
Anyone go with Futaba? or is there a thread on this somewhere?
Thanks.
DH

This sticky thread is floundering in a slippery ocean of abandonment.....so sad. I think the reason for its demise was to preserve the interaction between old and new members.

This sticky thread is floundering in a slippery ocean of abandonment.....so sad. I think the reason for its demise was to preserve the interaction between old and new members. I can't agree with that, Ian. It just ran out of steam and was only resurrected by that Spam post. I haven't changed my opinion that a sticky for beginners would be useful. And I am what some would call an 'old member' (Gawd, is my member old . . . ;D)
