Hi all. This thread shall be devoted to the building of my new cub, from start to finish. From planning, to construction. At the moment I'm at the planning stage, and I welcome any feedback anyone has to offer. The parts I've picked out are listed at the bottom of this message. Please let me know if you feel that any of them are crap, or if there's anything I've omitted. I want to construct a brushless cub with ailerons, and the motor I'm leaning towards at the moment is the headsuprc 2830-11. I want to give it a layer of iron on coating, and I'm planning on a black and yellow color scheme, mostly black underneath and mostly yellow on top. It's also going to be pimped out with navigation lights. I'm planning on setting it up with flapperons, and I plan to have the ailerons not go all the way to the ends of the wings to help reduce tip-stalls when landing with the flaps down. I'm also seriously considering mounting one (or two!) of these bomb drop modules from hobbyking on it: Attachments:

I saw that when I was making my last order there. Figured I would get them when got around to upgrading to a "real" radio. They sure would be a lot of fun huh? On your shopping list to Hobbyking, are you going to order while some things are out of stock, or wait til they're back in stock? The whole holding your order til all items are in stock is a little unnerving, and I've heard (on their forums) that can take months sometimes.

Have you ever tried using two different sources for one project? I just think those lipos are a little pricey. tHe blue lipos from hobbyparts are some of the best batteries I have ever owned. and they're cheaper and the 25c arn't on backorder.
I've also heard that the flightmax don't live up to their mah rating on occasion.
Glad to hear your going to rebuild and go brushless. If someone found your cub I hope that nothing "wrong" is being done to it...
Hope to hear about the maden as soon as it's done.

Thanks for the image of my beloved plane being stripped down and violated. I can only hope they break the tail section off the fuselage again and stab themselves with the toothpicks I stuck in there. My birthday isn't until June, so I can wait a couple of months for the good stuff to come back in stock. Until then, I can probably get the cub parts and start on the fuselage, covering it, installing the nav lights and making the ailerons. That's probably going to be the most time consuming. I'm surprised to see someone recommend a battery cheaper than the Zippy Flightmax, can you post a link to it? If you're talking about hobbypartz.com, their only comparable battery i can see is the "blue lipo 3-cell 1800mah", which is more expensive than the 2200mah flightmax from hobbyking anyway. I was actually considering just getting a T-28 last night instead of modifying a cub, but it just doesn't seem to have as much character as the super cub ) This is a nice looking plane too, although probably not up to the standard of the supercub. www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10323

Oh, never mind, It turns out that you had two of the flightmax's in your cart. but herest the link anyway! www.hobbypartz.com/83p-2200mah-3s1p-111-25c.htmlbut you have to remember, they are in stock. On second thought, don't buy these. As the shipping is $32 US to Austrailia. Okay, so looking back on the comments about the batteries... Dissregard them never mind.........................................................................................................................................................................................................

How bout building one of these? This is a friends plane, this is a sweet flyer. It's got a headsuprc/value hobby 3530-11 in it. It zooms. He's also got a clipped/straight wing, aileron, 2830-? headsuprc/VH cub. Its flys nice as well. Attachments:

If you like the SC, go for it. The T-28 is a considerably better flier.

There are few planes that match the quality of Horizon Hobby on any level but, for the money, that Decathlon is d**n sweet, very aerobatic and I'll be getting it sometime during or after the summer. Seeing as I already got me the HK Pitts Special ;D And YES, that IS a Super Cub tail gear on it follow the build and maiden thread on RCGroups: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1212707

Erwin, What sort of foam is that? I took a peek at the Decathlon and it looks like it's made of pretty small bead foam which would suggest it's not going to be particularly sturdy when compared to the HZ SC and the like.
As for matching the quality of Horizon? IMHO, I'd have to say that Multiplex planes are better.

No experience of flying it, but I've always thought the Taylorcraft looks really pretty. Not sure how long it'll stay like that if you are flying it. The J3 is considerably bigger that the SC.

Yes, perhaps building an indestructable supercub would be more practical. I'm tempted to buy one of the cheap hobbyking models , but I bet they'd be even more brittle.
