I was out last weekend with the cub putting around for the afternoon, cycling the batteries thru my car. i had been out for about an hour with my nice little rotation i had going, and i was really enjoying myself no crashes...nice landings, by far my best day yet.
now to the incident...
mid flight, i must have been up about 300-400 feet when i completely lost control. no response. zip. zilch. nada. throttled straight forward for 10 seconds and then cut out (not sure why that hapened, but im glad...it could have been a fly away) i stood with my mouth open as i watched my cub fall to the ground. i couldnt do anything to stop it. long story short....my dx6i and reciever lost their bind during flight. the cub, as you can imagine, did not fair so well. ive got her mostly repaired, but the damage is done.
moral of the story...CURSE THE Dx6! i got home and read up on this...talked to MM, and come to the realization that there are many people who have had this same problem with the dx6. search around...you'll find them. i sold it off and i think im going to pick up a futaba 7CAP. all you dx6i'ers, MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THAT YOURE BOUND CORRECTLY!!!! you dont want to have a day like i did

what rx? the 6100 are problematic it seems, they cont like low voltage at all.

Was your transmitter using fresh or freshly charged batteries?
Like Duck said, they are susceptible to low voltage, and as you may know, NiMH AA's have a lower voltage than standard alkaline AA batteries, even when fully charged.
If you are using NiMH's with the DX6i, it's very important to be using freshly charged batteries. In fact, NiMH's can drain over time without even being used. You might want to try leaving the Tx batteries in the charger right up until you're ready to use them. Also, be sure to swap out the Spektrum batteries with some name-brand batteries that have a higher mAh rating, so that they'll last longer. As I recall, the standard Spektrum batteries have a relatively low mAh rating.

everything was freshly carged...including my tx batts. like i said i had 3 going so that i never had to stop flying, so all were very fresh. i looked at everything to figure out what went wrong and it was then when i realized that my tx and rx were no longer bound. i am 99% positive that was what resulted in the crash

So, a Spectrum glitch!?! Go right out and buy 27MHz! Just ribbing you re-our previous conversations about newbies getting 27mHz 'glitches' and running right out and buying Spectrum. Spectrum cures everything. Very sorry about your crash. Never fun. I've lost 2 planes in the last month to equipment failure that was unexpected. Remember my buddy with the Futaba TX problem? He bought a JR 7202 synthesized TX. Problem has gone away. Definitely has been the TX all along. He must have ruined 3 planes with that TX and crashed a LOT more that were repairable. No such thing as a completely infallible system. fly

ugh...im so frustrated. nothing is easy when your trying to fandangle a $100 deal on a $300 radio. it was definitely the tx/rx communication tho.
i rebound them 3 times and they lost connection after 4 minutes everytime. i had fresh batts. in the plane and the tx.
guess im out of flying for awhile until i can decide what im going to do with this

2.4 is pretty new. All the newbies are touting it to one another as the solution to everything-thus my refrain above. That said some of the more experienced fliers around here are going to it and often it is strongly suggested for new fliers moving up. I continue to not have issues with 72 so am staying the course.
Some of the problems are starting to come out though. I have heard of your issue. Don't follow the technology since there is enough other stuff to figure out so have no idea how pervasive it is, whether it's fixable or can be avoided.
Good luck sorting it out. Pretty easy to get 72 TX used for relatively cheap. Make SURE you don't get one on one of those "common" channels the Parkzone stuff often comes out on. I think there are about half a dozen. You can look them up on the PZ site under replacement TX for the appropriate planes.

all of the zx-10s they use for the strykers and t-28s are on 72 mhz. i'll be sure to get a list from that site before i go checking out radios. you can get a nice 7 channel for the price of a 6 channel 2.4. not such a bad tradeoff. its not like the flying community couldnt exist on 72 until 2.4 came around.
as for used...im not so sure. there's not to many things that i would not consider buying used. radios/electronics in general would probably be one of them. does RCU have a nice classified section?

hey fly just curious what radio/tx setup do you fly?

JR 6102. Got it mostly because it had reasonable reviews, the guy that helped me get going had one, and I was totally confused by the technology. I could not even figure out what to do with 4 channels, let alone more. It's a stage we all go through.
I've used a number of RX; Corona (lightfight, vampower), Hitec, FMA, Berg, GWS, JR. I think maybe the Bergs are best but I don't have anything really to back that up-mostly reputation. I wouldn't put anything important on GWS. It's the only one I have that I am actually sure has glitches. These are more like hiccups and have not crashed a plane.
I'm on the other end of the buying spectrum-I buy a good deal of my stuff used. I do a fair amount of research before I do and have never been burned, but have gotten a few poor deals. This is more than made up by numerous extremely good deals. I use primarily RCGroups and Wattflyer. Seldom go to RCU.

great thanks i'll be looking around. you cant use bergs with PCM radios, right?

PCM (never used it) as I understand it is a proprietary link between a brand of TX and ONLY (some) of it's RX. That's true with JR anyway. It gives you certain extra 'features' (failsafe comes to mind) not available on standard FM (PPM).
I think all decent TX will do both PCM and FM. Most folks just use the FM which works fine with Berg or other standard FM RX.

My DX6i has performed very well in my T-28. Did you contact Horizon? Maybe you've got a defective TX or RX?
