No problem. You might just take the new one they send and list it on ebay. It will sell for more new than used. I bet dollars to donuts you will eventually run into issues with it. It is not a everyday flier radio. More of a weekend warrior radio. 2 guys at our field had them (both returned for new ones) and found them to be disfunctional at some point. Not long after getting them new. One guy had a tx case that would reset the radio by squeezing it too hard....not that hard either. I say good luck in what ever you decide. Either way you will have a new radio I guess. If you choose to keep it and another plane goes down......what is it worth to you? It's like anything else in life....when something is released before it's time, you usually burn some money one way or another. IMO they should have tested these systems for another 2 years beofre releasing them. Too many lost planes for my liking.

You may have already seen this or something like it: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=948301Notice he was using 4 servos on 3S > a potential recipe for disaster. This needs a separate UBEC. Upgrading the Cub to Spectrum, full house control (4 servos) and 3S is basically the same. fly

BEC=battery eliminater circuit. It's job was to NOT have to have that extra battery you DO have to have with nitro planes since electrics already are flying a battery. No, you don't need an external battery necessarily. That is one option. A simpler option is a UBEC. Start by doing some reading here: www.castlecreations.com/products/cc_bec.htmlHere's a thread on it with more info (link to above also): www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39138One of the ESC job is to bring the battery voltage DOWN to RX & servo level. To do that it makes heat. As the load increases (more servos) and the voltage increases 2S > 3S > 4S the job becomes more than the BEC on most ESC can handle. So you need to take the load off the ESC, either by adding an RX secondary battery or by adding a UBEC. Do people get away without doing this? Yep. Do people have crashes and problems of an unknown nature by doing this? Yep. They don't read the ESC spec, buy ESC that don't even tell you, or just don't know or understand how they work. You may have had a problem with a faulty DX6i. Or maybe you had a problem related to this and the cheap GWS ESC not handling the voltage and causing the Spectrum RX to 'brown out' and lose contact? Too much load, not enough volts to go around to critical components? Or maybe just a lousy battery that couldn't keep up with the load of flying and delivering to all the electrics? Before you can troubleshoot effectively you got to know how the system works.

from their diagram it looks as if the BEC and ESC are wired to the same deans connector. is that correct? i hate soldering and resoldering...

The bec will get soldered to the deans with the esc.

Why not do it yourself? It is easier than learning to tie your shoes....and you can learn that at the ripe ole age of 4.....

i dont have an iron and i would really screw things up. it would help to learn though.....i get really lost on polarity and such. im going to go check out that soldering thread

I really bit when it came to soldering. After watching several soldering videos - including Kevin's - I had great success soldering all my stock batteries over tho Deans. Well, the very first one was a redo because I didn't have the tip tinned. In fact I found it enjoyable and was looking around the house and garage for things that needed soldering ;D.
