Hello Ed ,i'm a bit confused ,30 mins before sunset and 30 after ,what's all that about ,i mean it would suit me with the night radian ,but on your side creeping about in the dark wouldnt you risk bumping into a bear
. Chris
anything is possible around here
When I was growing up we use to have a lot of Mountain Lions running about
have not seen one in years But...who knows they may have been watching me...
Yeah my Neighbor who lives across the road from the Unique has bears steal his garbage
and we have many Deer in that field so I am sure Bears are around more than I care to think about
Crazy deer is what tore my carpeted runway....they liked pawing at it
One thing good is that highway close by , as it blocks a lot of travel by the animals
and out the other way is a lot of houses and people...not as many wooded areas as there use to be
I assume the law is considering just before daybreak many people fly to get morning sunrise pictures
and few manned aircraft fly on foggy mornings and at night after dark allows one to fly just as it is getting dark
and obtain sunset pics and allows enough time to pack up the gear....
Worse issue is the fact the ones making these regulations and laws are clueless of the hobby.
And it does not help when some entities who are suppose to be helping the Hobbyists have sold us out for a dollar.
Do not know why the You Tube elite who make all the big money and the Hobby store owners and other such Hobby entities do not step up
and go to Washington DC and enlighten the so called representatives in the Government there who make these
foolish laws .
But we will just have to abide our time and hope they listen and make changes to the regs and laws and make them
reasonable instead of so vague .
here is one notice : FAA shared a draft of what will be the largest and most significant regulatory update to present for drone pilots since LAANC went into effect. The FAA has proposed to make operations over people and at night legal, under certain circumstances, without a waiver.
LAANC is ( Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability )
That is what I have to use every time I fly because I fall withing the Lateral boundaries of an Airport
I am just outside the 5 mile range But still fall within it's Controlled airspace and glide slops
It is considered class E surface airspace and the grid I am in according to the FAA's facility map
I can fly up to 400 feet, just a mile away it is reduced to 200 feet and goes down from there to zero
Under the proposed rules, FAA-approved flights over people will fall into three categories:
Category 1 – all sUAS less than 0.55 lbs. permitted to fly over people
Category 2 – sUAS greater than 0.55 lbs. can be flown over people if the manufacturer has proven that a resulting injury to any person will be under a specified severity threshold. Additionally, the sUAS must have no exposed rotating parts that could lacerate skin or have any FAA-identified safety defect.
Category 3 – sUAS greater than 0.55 lbs. can be flown over people if the manufacturer has proven that a resulting injury to any person will be under a specified severity threshold, but the severity of the injury can be higher than what’s permitted in Category 2. Like Category 2, the sUAS must have no exposed rotating parts that could lacerate skin or have any FAA-identified safety defect.
To compensate for the higher injury threshold, Category 3 includes additional operational limits to lessen the chance of injury. Additional stipulations for Category 3 operations include:
Cannot operate over an open-air assembly of people
The operation must take place over a closed- or restricted-access site
The sUAS may transit but not hover over people
Currently, Part 107 ( Commercial ) prohibits the operation of an sUAS at night—more specifically, the period 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes prior to sunrise—without a waiver.
Also does not mention recreational flyers, BUT it states here on the FAA site;
This Authorization and the Special Provisions shall be in effect between civil sunrise
and civil sunset local time. ( so basically no one can fly at night ) and soon to do so
they will have to pass another test just for that and have lights that can be seen up to
3 nautical miles .
Under the new proposed rule, remote pilots would be permitted to fly at night without a waiver if they:
Take an updated knowledge test or training that includes new subject matter relating to operating at night
Equip their sUAS with anti-collision lights visible for 3 statute miles
The FAA will require remote pilots to complete an updated knowledge test or recurrent training that addresses sUAS operations at night before they can legally operate under the new rules.
well the issue with these new consider regs and laws is they mostly apply to
commercial style pilots and not hobbyists at all . they claim to make differences
but the wording does not, and it basically treats all of us as manned aircraft.
And they are suppose to come up with some sort of remote ID so they know what is in the air
and who is in the air...how that will apply to a foam plane is beyond my ability to comprehend .
As I am sure it will be costly and for most hobbyists will simply not obey the law
and I dare say many will simply stop the hobby at all.
Even I have reduced flying my planes and have just been flying these tiny quads and doing it just in my own yard.
But i still have to go on Airmap and get authorization to fly through LAANC and get approval and keep that
approval number just in case someone comes along and demands I show them i am legal.
Same will be when they make the test , one will have to show them you passed and have registered and have authorization
or you can potentially be fined, jailed and all your RC equipment confiscated .
It has really gotten stupid .
They simply like most things have stolen another freedom from people and have used their ignorance
to force people to pay more money to enjoy a hobby .
Same has happened to most all hobbies done outside, from hunting to fishing to boating etc etc
One has to buy licenses and pay fees and taxes and obtain certain stamps for certain areas
and for certain game and even certain fish...one can not operate a boat unless it's X ,Y or Z
I mean it's just horrible and many people have stopped hunting fishing etc because of it
I assume one day we will have to pass a test or pay another fee just to be able
to take a crap....well I guess we already pay the fee with the sewer bill....I am sure the test will come sooner or later
So much for the land of the free ....
Sorry that was a long rant...
Hope it helped tho...
