Well sun was shining and then rained a little....and dried up
waited to see what it would do...was Sunny
decided to charge my batteries and load up a couple planes and even my quads
as I finally got all the batteries charged and ready to go
started thundering and getting dark
came down a frog strangler as they say
Poured the rain...killed that idea in a hurry...
so frustrating...sick last year and now due to constant crappy weather I can't fly this year .
Now I have full batteries and no ability to use them
will see what happens tomorrow , but it is suppose to be the same weather forecast all week
even calling for a possible Tropical storm to come up this way towards end of the week....
been maddening here
Hope you get some flying in over there. Ed.

I love that "came down a frog strangler" , never heard that one before . this anticipating a weather window lark is damm tricky , i took some vid of the cessna c188 the other day ,well it was only the odd rain drop when i started to walk down the field, i thought it would blow over .i had made it to the field so i was going to fly no matter what, and the what came down in buckets ,proper frog strangler

A sudden hard rain. Same as gullywasher. Gullywasher and frog strangler as been the terms used round here for a long time...LOL and today horrible winds ( gale ) discharged by batts...fly quads inside a little.... frustrating to say the least

Well i have serviced the dhc2 , put it back together again ,it dont look pretty anymore and the wind is blowing, but perhaps with this one the wind is good . when i crashed it the other day there was no wind at all, nothing for the wing to bite into ,so easier for it to tip stall. mind you if it flys better in the wind i will be on to a winner ",we get enough wind"

Some wind is not bad, BUT these horrible high winds of late is far to much...especially for my location
and worse wind is blowing East to West which means blowing towards the highway...not good at all

Hell Ed it really is a pity you are stuck with the "unique" in a way., i would be in the same boat if the groundsmen decided to inforce a no fly policy on the playing fields, which they have a right to do, i expect it will come along eventually. just thinking about the beaver again ,i still prefer the outline of it on floats , i have been thinking of adding some sort of fixed u/c to the floats to make them "amphib" , i dont need steering on this just take off and land straight, also i wonder if turbilator strips on the wings would help to break up the wind over the wings ,and help against tip stalls. i have turbilator strips i could use off a dead cub. sorry to keep banging on about the dhc2 , but i am determined to tame the beasty

Hello ED , Parkzone have sprung back up again , they have re-introduced the Wildcat and the Trojan , i did hear a rumour that the Stinson is perhaps on its way back ,lets hope the se5a is on the way as well, i still have a Stinson in the loft ,just needing an u/c rework, mind you the "Stinny" is a bit of a tip staller, what with the gull wing and tapered wing ends. its one of those planes where you start the turn with rudder and opposite aileron , but it was a nice looker in the air, sounds like i", m forming a battle plan again might have to name my fleet the discontinued squadron

Hey Chris , Parkzone had some of the best planes ever made
But when i started back into the hobby after many years of doing nothing
that is when most Parkzone products was on a massive discountinued spiral
So many i looked at for years, and drooled over....went away before I jumped in
did manage to get a couple, but they went away so fast .
Always kept wanting them to return, now that many are, so much has changed and funds are so tight, I can't jump in now...Lol
I have not even had one flight yet this year...it's really been a bummer
sick last year, and now horrible windy weather this year...
Trying to be patient...But on the good side I am getting many things done that has been put off...

I can echo the funds being tight situation , i can remember a few years ago before i had any planes and no money to buy any,i still had the dream of flight. my kids got me a small power kite ,i still use it occasionally ,even swooping and diving with this i was imagining i was flying a hurricane. actually there is quite a pull on these sort of kites , i have lost my footing and felt my arms where coming off on a number of occasions that is until one of the strings break ,that is scary the kite just spins round and around till it hits the floor, by that time of course i am usually just lucky to get the excitement over, although i have had the strings slice across my wrists and neck before now, come back from the field looking like i"ve been in a knife fight .still its not as bad as falling out of a tree trying to rescue a plane

My luck ran out ,i was flying the yak 12 this afternoon ,very sunny hot with a slow breeze. a couple of red kites flew onto the field and started circling, so up went the yak ,she caught the thermal and was with the kites in no time ,after about 10 mins of this, a breeze blew up ,i dont know if this blew the thermal out but next second the yak fell out of the sky from about 100ft up. it has performed perfectly for 3 years or so,so i dont suspect radio failure, if signal was lost the wind would surely have cartwheeled it back across the field. no it came down straight as a dart ,and so fast i think it got caught at the end of the thermal and was thrown down, i have never seen anything like it before. the wing is snapped ,prop broken strut off. do you think if i get it repaired that it might run a 9-6 supercub prop on 2s, it has an st models 20 amp speed controller fitted ,of all the planes i have i am gutted at crashing the yak. chris

O No....not the Yak
Prop should be OK to run
I hate hearing that....normally even with motor off the Yak would float around...had to be winds pushing it to the ground

Well what can i say "the Ruskys build them tough" , yak12 back in business ,the wing took hot melt very well ,the only danger point being to make sure the control rods for flaps and ailerons were clear of glue ,managed to refit the strut as well and i found an 8.4 prop in my spares bin , the hub on the supercub 9.6 was too deep to fit the adapter ,and get a nut on it. so know i am waiting for the wind to ease. its funny my wife knows how my flights have gone by the way the front door goes.if all went well ,i usually bring the planes into the living room ,to charge battys , if on the other hand things have gone bad ,the door gets shut abruptly and she can hear me muttering to myself all the way up the stairs and into "the surgery" .the yak wasn't going to stay in a pile of bits for long, its worth too much ,you know yourself there isn't another plane that flies like it , i hope the winds back off over the "Unique" so you can join in the fun again my friend .chris
