wow hate to hear that Chris
but I have been there myself , I know the feeling
yeah that little commander looks good ( all their products now days are pricey )
I think Bob Hoover could have flown a Pig if it had wings
couple days of snow and now sunshine typical March weather, one never knows what they get one day to the next

there seems to be a craze at the moment for making larger versions of existing good selling airframes,i am wondering if hk will come out with an enlarged flybeam, i always liked that little plane ,aerobatic and nimble, just needed a switch so the lights could be turned off during the day, well you know how it fly`s, when you think about it the flybeam started the artf night flying at an affordable price, they have been making them for a long time now.i might have to drag my flybeam pieces out of the loft , i had one pnp ,managed to mis-judge landing in the dark and dis-asembled the front end, then i got a replacement airframe ,and had a dodgy batt explode whilst flying ,at first i just thought the lights where getting brighter until i realized it was on fire,so i have wings ,tail feathers most of the lights if i was any good at it i could cobble up another fuselage.i did make the mistake of transferring the light strips to the supercub with floats ,even using the ones on the tail .i took the cubby to a big posh lake nearby ,for its first water flight this was a little while ago anyway cubby took off and immediately ground looped on its back and went nose in,of course the lights on the tail made it tail heavy ,i just used the prop to motor boat it back to me ,lights off the tail still flys luckily .chris

Yeah I love my Flybeam...it is floaty and is so cool to fly
love the lights...I knocked the LG off a couple times I now installed some Balsa and screwed and glued it all in very stiff now and lands so much smoother
one can install a switch to turn the lights on and off if need be
I fly mine mostly at dusk and right after dark, fly everything else doing the day
I think they still sell parts for the FB...and still sell the entire model at HK

I might have to scrape together some flying money ,and get a new one after the wifes birthday of course, its cold and snowy at the moment, even the rabbit won`t stay out for long.the only trouble i used to have flying at night was with telling which way the wind is blowing ,its difficult to see the leaves on the trees , i had the lights on a switch on the supercub, but when the speed controller packed up ,i had to re-install the safe receiver which has no port for switching the lights. chris

yeah got to do something to stay in the air
the constant talk about regulations and nonsense about this Hobby it is hard to tell at what level it will end up
if I can enjoy flying and stay in my own house and my own yard to me that is a plus .
I love my planes, not really a quad guy, but sometimes we have to adapt to the situation.
What is funny is so many club folks scream and complain about the dreaded drone, all it has done is increase the numbers because all the whining about safety and regulations , is taking away the planes and this little quads are growing in popularity .
It is sad in some ways and funny in others
But we all have seen hobbies get regulated to the point many people stop enjoying them
Big Companies and big money players are basically buying the airspace I assume some where in the near future, hobbyists will get put out or just in certain locations and regulated to only people with the money to throw at the hobby to stay in it.
A lot like fishing...we had a ton of places to fish and they started destroying all the great fishing spots we use to have to walk to and go through trees rough terrain today they have built roads and they go right to the water and they charge for each spot and most people camp out and rarely fish,....I after many years stopped fishing
some people have bought spots and many large bass boats to go on the lakes etc while others blow by them just running up or down for the heck of it ruins fishing....can't fish when the boats and the waves almost throw you out of a boat on almost drowns you on the bank.....
same with hunting, to many regulations and jumping through hoops just became a hassle instead of an enjoyment....
hiking boating, climbing etc etc etc...all regulated the fun out of them
appears this hobby like all the rest is heading the same direction
that's my rant

Hello Ed just thinking ,how many flyers do you need to form a club because it seems club members get more protection from legislation, for instance i have just read a report from the BMFA, which covered slope flying ,where there is no clear club structure at all . where i fly is on a recreational sports field , obviously football takes priority ,but i have a good relationship with the groundsmen and they warn me if there are matches to be played and what pitches will be used, this works as they know i will not fly if i don`t have safe separation in case of emergency, and during the summer break i get the field to myself. just thinking if i put the call out to the quad flyers, might get enough to form a loose club, then again the council might take notice and ban all flying ,so its a tricky situation with not being able to drive i would be stuck. there is a registered flying club just outside the town where i live, but it isn`t viable to walk there with all the gear,,plus they are not very welcoming.the governing body of rc flying in the UK even admits that some of the clubs are intimidating and not friendly,i mean some are brilliant, but sadly not the one near me ,besides i want the freedom to fly when i want and to fly what i want to fly, i am already carrying out my own risk assessments before every flight ,only fly when i am 100% i keep below 400ft as far as i can gauge, the training planes coming over don`t always keep to this .basically i am doing the same as i would be doing in a club environment ,just i haven't passed any training certificates but i am insured, i just wish red tape would leave us alone. chris

I figure two people make a club...
same here, some good ones, one near me would not return calls allow me in the gates or even talk to me to see if I wanted to be there their actions let me know it was not for me...that was sad
now with health issues going is not an option, next one from this one is nearly 80 miles away .
things change to much and to fast
I try and stay as safe as possible, only fly in certain conditions
several years now and no issues .
to much red tape for sure
O btw my quad kit has left customs finally

So the quady is on its way ,you are going to have a lot of fun with that, i found after flying planes that it takes a bit of getting used to with the throttle, i mean give it the beans and it just goes up and not forward, then you put the stick forwards to move and pull back to reverse, counter to what we are used to.although if someone is new to them it would make sense, forward to go forward ,back to go back sometimes wish the planes had a reverse it would help with those big green things, you know the ones that will be putting out plane grabbing tentacles before long.anyway sunny here at the moment no wind, time to invade the very crowded airspace.all the best chris

seems when it is sunny here it snows there
and when sunny there it is snowing here.
yelp we got more snow...Lol
yeah I flew that QX 200 a little but you are right it takes some getting sue to I can not count the times that thing went way up in the air with little throttle sort of scary sometimes.....
I have my heli now I enjoyed flying it basically the same control input as a quad had no issues....but the quad for sure up and down...lol
hopefully you can get some air time in

I did get some flying in,although i had trouble with the se5a she took off all right ,but then started making a squealing sound and wasn't making any power ,managed to get her down safely couldn't smell any burning , i think the motor is alright ,thinking it might be the speed controller.its annoying as i beefed up the wing mounting and added rigging, got to take it all off now to gain entry to the speedy and receiver. anyway i went out twice to the field ,first time with the se5a and my dynam hurricane, the retracts on the hurri where playing up so i decided not to risk them jamming and blacking out the receiver so limited success first time then yak12 and st acrobat second time. it was funny some bod came up to me .and said ",dont you think its too windy for those things ",well you know what its like the yak went up first ,wind about 8mph she flew great, zipping along downwind, turning nicely into the wind and just hovering on the spot.the acrobat went up next, the control surfaces on this plane are huge but it is not at all twitchy and it just eats the wind.i wasn`t rely trying to prove a point ,but my left finger may have pushed the throttle lever to the top and my right finger may have pulled sharply on the elevater, anyway i love the acrobat and it didn`t disappoint me ,it went vertical like a scorched cat for about 100ft ,course my right hand drifted over to the right so she was rolling all the way up he he, its nice when something works . here is video of one .chris www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVlsFZDKZEY

Hey that acrobat plane looks cool....real floaty when he let off the power
yeah the Yak is a nice flyer even in the wind
some planes are meant for windy days...lol
great to know you got some air time
snow on the ground here and cold Sun is shining today, hopefully it will melt most of it
keep flying

From the vid of the acrobat ,it looks like they stole your idea of the carpet runway ,right next to a concrete road seems strange, unless the road is pitted and it dosen`t show on the camera. anyway i have found that the full on 3d planes ,are not what you expect ,yes in the right hands the control surfaces are huge and the plane will do anything you ask of it,but because they are designed to fly at high alfa ,hanging on the prop and such like, the stall speed is virtually non existent, which makes them brilliant for sport aerobatics and makes them safer and more relaxing to fly. i only paid £90 for the plane brand new which seems ridiculous, i think people are intimidated by the size of it and the capabilities of the airframe but it is a teddybear in the air and you dont have to fly it like its been stolen. i ran up the se5a this morning and cannot replicate the screeching of loss of power, perhaps the prop threw up a bit of mud into the motor, the field is wet and muddy at the moment ,i will give it another go when the wind dies down a bit i might be lucky. chris

I have used a 3D style plane on a simulator
they seem floaty even on it
Yeah I love the SE5a , I fly it around with one thumb it flies so easy
was going to install a pan and tilt set up for a cam in the cockpit but never got around to it either .
may have to look it to that again...would be nice to have a view looking around from that position.
calling for yet another snow storm here tomorrow one of those wait and see type things
maybe it will be nice over there so you can get a few more flights in
