Hello everyone,
CrazyHorse and Dillzio a while back brought up the Vegemite/Marmite debate. I witnessed two varying opinions on the matter, with neither side willing to budge an inch. Being the great mediator I have always been I decided to aquire both Vegemite from Australia and Marmite from England in a taste off on neutral ground...a.k.a. the United States of America.
I have enlisted the help of two of my neighbors who are both doctors in the U.S. Air Force to help me have a decent sized taste test. Once each individual, including myself, have tried both offerings it will be down to a 1-5 judging system based on taste, texture, appearance, fragrance and would you ever eat XXX again? 25 total points from each judge with a perfect score being 75 points. The highest scoring product will be stamped unofficially as a tasters choice. The losing item will be destroyed so as not to contaminate the rest of the worlds taste buds! Video to be posted soon after!
What I need from you all is ways to properly eat Vegemite and Marmite. Be it on bread, with butter (salted or unsalted), wheat toast, white toast, pumpernickel....let me know....testing takes place in about 1 week!
;D Thanks!

The correct way to enjoy Vegemite is to dispose of it, unopened. White bread, Pumpernickel? Good grief man, MARMITE is seriously special, only to be enjoyed upon wholemeal bread with seeds, toasted and buttered, or joy of joys, hot buttered crumpets. Nothing whatsoever should be added to this already perfect food.

Ian in Alaska - I urge you to ignore those ramblings from the Land of Oz. Aussies are an uncultured lot at the best of times. They have no concept of gracious living. You must remember that their ancestors were criminals, shipped down there from Great Britain to start a new life. Ever since, they have repaid our kindness by looking down their noses at us, referring to us as Bloody Whingeing Poms. Even when we allow them to beat us at cricket, which we do on a regular basis as an act of charity, they make disparaging comments about us. Such ingratitude! Their Cultural Attache to the UK, one Les Patterson, used to make regular appearances on our TV, trying to show us how sophisticated the Aussies have become. Please watch one of his interviews through this link and form your own opinion: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F7E7lAp-hMAnd these are the people who praise Vegemite and despise Marmite! Words fail me!

Vegemite is much like a fine caviar - it must be enjoyed in the correct quantity or it becomes overpowering and it ruins the whole culinary experience.
My favorite way to have vegemite is on crumpets- showing my english herritage there. Hot buttered crumpets with just the right amount of vegemite added is simply divine. Much like Marmite, if you add to much it tastes quite unpleasant, too little and you don't taste much at all, but just right it's really good. Just remember that Marmite seems to have a stronger flavour than Vegemite so you will need to add less. Marmite is powerful stuff - like I said before, shark repellent.

Dillzio you should be saying load up on the Marmite so they prefer the Vegemite, renard80 - look my ancestors did come over on the ships but one was a captain on the second fleet i am pretty sure it was that one they traced it back to, and funnily enough one from the other side of the family was a convict so i am both, lol I just wish we still had the land the Captain had, parcel on Castlereagh St in Sydney - oh how much that would be worth now adays.... Hey Les Patterson is a role Model - lay off, i model my life on that video..... lol Cricket: Sir Don Bradman is considered the greatest batsmen of all time as he averaged approximately 100 in test cricket. None of the modern batting ‘Gurus’ are able to even come close. Donald Bradman 27 August 1908 - 25 February 2001 Cootamundra, New South Wales, Australia, Whats that renard80, lol..... AUSTRALIA!!! Tie me kangaroo down sport....

Or even if we LOSE you mean? ;D Les Patterson is a weird, strange, cross-dressing tw*t, in my humble opinion of course. Forgive any mistakes in typing, just come back from having my hand operation. Now there is dedication to the SCC! BTW, an innovative friend of mine tells me that Vegemite, when diluted, is a good preservative for fencing. Personally, I have more respect for my fencing. Dill, you can not possibly have tasted true caviar and I do not mean the sad substitute lumpfish stuff. I personally think that Les Patterson should be embalmed using the stuff, preferably right away. No offence as usual.

Les Patterson is a weird, strange, cross-dressing tw*t. I had no idea Sir Les was a cross-dresser! He has always struck me as the epitome of the well-dressed, well-bred Australian male, much like my other Aussie hero, Barry McKenzie (Google if you don't know him). I have it on good authority that both were raised almost exclusively on Vegemite. Ian in Alaska, please note the scary result of eating the stuff. (bpj, you should try to verify your descent from a Second Fleet captain. Now that really would be something.)

I thought Marmite was some kind of flooring? And isn't a Vegemite a deal you buy off late night television for chopping vegetables real tiny? Only $19.99 +S&H, and if you order now we'll throw in a 40 foot trailer house..... ;D You can't eat that kind of stuff, can you? Well, maybe you Brits and Aussies can.....

Ah, some input from America, whose invaluable contributions to international cuisine include the Big Mac, Coca-Cola and hominy grits . . . ;D ;D (I do hope any newcomers appreciate that all this p***-taking banter isn't meant to be taken seriously. Is it? )

So if Marmite (England) looses will you destroy it? (England) I suppose I could just drill some holes in the ground over in jolly ole England and watch it sink into the ocean.....but then, if I did that then who would the Vikings invade?

I suppose I could just drill some holes in the ground over in jolly ole England and watch it sink into the ocean.....but then, if I did that then who would the Vikings invade? It is disappointing to note how little respect some inhabitants of our former colonies have for their Mother Country. Thus we see the jibes on here from Australia and now the US. Fortunately, as a more mature and generally tolerant country, we accept this with good grace. We have withstood much more during our long history. Neither of you emerging nations deserves the many benefits we have bestowed upon you. For example, Marmite.
