Why the hell didn't you just type that question into google??? Have you ever heard of Google??? Also, depending what size(resolution) pictures your taking will also determin how many fit on any card!!! You could have found that out if you simply typed your question into Google. Ifly

the class of the memory card has nothing to do with how many pictures it will store, the class only indicates how fast it is.
8GB=8000MB
Work out how many MB your average photo is, and divide 8000 by that number.
as i fly says, if you ask google it's sure to come up with lots of estimates

You can fit 1,000 pictures on this card, But only if they're high quality porn ( nothing else!). Memory card= porn only. Remember that! ;D

You don't even need to google really as long as you know the size of your images (assume from a camera). Although Toff is correct with what 8Gb is in Mb, it's normal that you will not be able to use the whole space. Formatting (device dependant) affects the total usable space and many cameras set up other areas within the card during formatting such as a recycle bin. 4Gb cards I use in my camera do not allow for 4Gb worth of pictures, and the total number of pictures varies between card manufacturer. I get between 150 and 170 shots off per card, however I do shoot RAW and LSF JPEG (= 4032 x 3024).

does anyone know how many pictures a 8 GB class 10 memory card will hold. thanks Hmmmm, the answer is 160 Thats presuming you're using a Hassleblad CFV-39 digital back shooting full square frame. If you're using a hubble type space telescope to capture your images then I would say alot lower, maybe 8 or 9 though not 100% sure. John

Lol, you guys are tooooo funny!!!!!! Say I use the hubble, how many porn pics can I get on? Group shot or close up? Not that it really makes any difference, just thought it sounded good. No the real question in order to answer yours correctly is..... What is your intended output? Viewing on a PC? Or will you be wishing to do a billboard size blow up? John

morning John66 I apologize for saying that. anyway I guess I should have mentioned I just bought my first digital camera it is a canon powershot SX10 IS. and don't know to much about it that's why I asked about the memory card. there was nothing in the book about it but I have the resolution set on large. pixels are 3648 x 2736 print is set at super fine if that helps any and set on auto. like I said I'm new to this kind of camera and the book that came with it really does not get into memory cards. deer hunting starts in a few weeks & after that will be going to Hawaii for two weeks. so I will be taking a lot of pictures I mean a lot so would like to know if I'm alright with the 8GB memory card. thanks
again I apologize just a little POed with this camera.

Easiest way to find out, take a picture with the camera upload to a PC. Check the file size. At a guess it'll be a bit less than 10Mb but I could be way off.
One recommendation, don't rely on a single card, get a second/spare (smaller Gb is cheaper). That way you won't get caught out with a full card in the camera and a image that is a stunner that you can't capture because you forgot to copy the contents of the card on the previous night.
Oh yeah, and don't shoot video unless you want to eat up the card rather quickly.

Ok so I have looked at the specs of your cam and apparently it dosen't shoot an uncompressed file, I have similar mp cam that shoots a superfine jpeg that is aprox 4.1 mb in size, therefore you will get aprox 1850 shots at the best quality on your card!
Thanks for the apology.
John
