I know there is no set range on the DX6i & the cub but anyone know what is the farthest anyone ever flew.

When I'm in New Jersey I fly at a closed airport in Marlboro NJ. Its been closed for almost 10 years and is a perfect place to fly. Anyway, the runway is 2100 feet(640 meters) long. Last year my brother and I measured the range of the Dx6i using the runway. He held the Cub and I drove down to the end of the runway in my car while talking to him on my cell phone. At what we determined to be about 1900 feet reception way lost. A few days later, I flew my Super Cub into the clouds over the airfield.lol Here is a video of that flight!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rCprzNk2RM&feature=youtube_gdata_player

There are a couple of flavours of the Spekky Rx's, effectively either "park fly" or "full range". I suspect the Rx in a BNP SC is a "park fly" which would equate to the distance you measured, hence this is the limitation on the range, not the Tx. Tests easewhere suggest the full range Rx's are capable of a fair bit further.

Hi Ging, nice to hear from yoy again!!! I have never thought much about range and limitations. What you said does make sence. I have heard that the full range recievers are used for further range. I just never put 2 & 2 together to realize that the receiver is the determining factor in range.
I wonder if TX range changes between manufacturers or generally speaking all TX's will transmitt to the point that you cant see the plane anymore!!
I also wonder if a DX7 or DX8 has more transmitter power(hence range) than a DX6i.
That day that I tested the range with my brother at 1900 feet, I could only see a white dot at that distance.

Range is more a function of the RX than the TX although there are TX variables. Even the Spektrum parkflyer RX's (short range....) actually have a significant range capability. Without extra antennas or the antenna extension the possibility of shadowing goes up.

Welcome back Ifly. I don't know about the differences in models of Tx, however there is a significant difference between the A-EU and B-US power settings within the radio. I believe the EU sets the output to 10mW, the US to 100mW. European fliers who've just read this and are thinking "Whoopy, I can increase my output by changing this" should be aware that changing to the US setting is effectively illegal by european law. You'll also get into a whole lot of grief if you fly with others as there is a good chance that this power setting would swamp those who are conforming to the law.

@ John66 Thanks for the bad news I was prepaired for them to be junk because the price just did not add up to quality!!!! I will ground test them anyway and see what I come up with!! John
