BOLLOX! The orange Rx's work perfectly! ( and I'm not just backing john up!). I've had a few bought off ebay ( before john started selling!), and so far have worked flawlessly! Cheap AND work great! just the ticket for me!!

They can work fine. The single antenna is prone to signal shadowing but so is the 'real' Spektrum.
Seems to be about a 5-10% failure rate out of the box by reports I've read so start out expecting it. If they work, they should be fine for most applications.
No experience with the satellite so I can't comment except to say it DOES NOT increase range, it DECREASES shadowing. I watched a buddy with the orange RX spiral his MiniMag into the ground. Looking inside he had just stuffed all the electrical components in a jumble. Most likely the battery and motor shadowed the antenna and he lost all signal. Those little antenna are cute and easier to use than the long ones but they do have some drawbacks.

@ John66 Thanks for the bad news I was prepaired for them to be junk because the price just did not add up to quality!!!! I will ground test them anyway and see what I come up with!! John Awwww cmon, dont cry, sorry for the bad advice, it was more of a tongue in cheek dig at our resident expert ghomer. The RXs are fine. Im sure they'll bring you many happy hours of flying! ;D John

Lol, I'm just having some fun!!! Not crying!!!! ;D I enjoy testing and pushing the limits!!! But I always calculate my potential losses when flying. My CUB is a flying piece of cheese that has seen its better days. The tail is about ready to fall off, the fusalage is cracked all the way down one side. It weighs a ton and keeps serving its purpose well. ;D Really, just look at the video's I've posted the last few days and your probably thinking the same thing I am, " how the hell is that thing still flying" ;D Or "why dont he just fly without a cowl? Lol Would I install a $10 RX in my Cub. I would not give it a second though. Would I install a $10 RX in my Radian, NEVER!!!!! Would I install a $10 RX in my MPX Fun Cub, Never, and the fun cub complete with top of the line electronics is only about $30 dollars more than a Super Cub LP. Last year when flydiver was basically potty training me on electrics,ESC's,BEC's and batteries I would have never considered putting a $10 RX in my cub. But as with everything else, things change!!! I bought the orange RX's more for the hell of buying them and dont even have a plane to put them in.lol But somehow I knew they would come in handy as a conversational item!!! Lol

So far I have orange RX's in my supercub, depron eurofighter, jamara soarstar and zero. All have been flying for at least 6 months, and none have had any issues ( which is more than can be said for the spektrum AR6100 that was originally installed in my GWS zero...lots of charge and no control. Turned into a dive that only ended at 0 ft altitude.) Thankfully, now glued together again and flying once more!

Figured I'd better chime in on this one as I do have 6 of these cheap rx's (the orange ones from Hobby King) as does my flying partner. We have them in 40 and 60 size planes with 2 and 4 stroke engines in them and they do just fine. Never a hiccup. Lets not forget I am not generally a big fan of horizons offering of 2.4...I am a futaba guy. I am not closed minded however. Since allowing myself to try this "other system" I have found myself fond of the price. User friendlyness however is a downside when compared to other systems of equal price. This is my opinion and just that. I was raised using Futaba and thoguht I would never vary from that. Since most of my favorite little planes need this system in order to fly I really had no choice if I wanted to fly them....fly their radio. Bought DX7 and several small planes and a pile of cheap rx's and love em!!! Sorry to ramble here but .........been a while.
So IF you are scared to put this rx in an electric plane all I can say is, you shouldn't be.
Peace,
Kevin

Had to get a Dx6i myself recently for the same reason. I wanted to get a blade MCPX and its Bind n Fly, I must say its worked very well. Anyhow. Good to see you still have the Super Cub Club in your bookmaks. ;D All the best. Paul

Hello Paul, I check in from time to time to see how things are going. Sure is a nice crew of folks here. Glad to see so many kicking in good info. I'll have to look up the MCPX not sure what that is. I will always have this place on the top line of my browser. Been flying a lot of planes lately. My 33% edge just had a incident where the canopy came off in flight. What a handful it was to land in a bit of a head wind with all the open fuse. It wanted to stay up. Got her down in one piece though.....whew. Later

This is some really good input on the orange RX's. I never researched them and was judging them strictly on the price. As soon as I am back stateside I will run a static range test on the RX's that I bought. I guess its just for my own peace of mind.
When I left the hobby in the early 80's I was also using Futaba equiptment. When I returned to the hobby 3 years ago my first aircraft was a "blade MCX". It came with the DSM2 TX and as my fleet of micro copters and aircraft grew I upgraded straight to a Dx6i. I am thrilled with the convenience and have no basis to judge the spectrum technology against anythig else. As Apple says "it just works". Lol
I do want to by another Spectrum TX to use strictly as a trainer connected to my DX6i. If anyone can lead me in the right direction as what I need to consider it would be greatly appreciated.
Ifly

Depends on what you expect out of a buddy box system. In terms of connecting to other TX the DX6i and lower are basic - no frills. You just transfer stick controls and the [Slave] has to be set up right to fully fly the other plane correctly. To get some of the fancier features you need to get at least DX7 and above----for both TX.
Having said that for basic training it probably doesn't matter much. I rarely use more than basic controls and I do a fair amount of buddy boxing.
Easiest would be a DX5 as slave. Not too expensive and easy to pick up off RCGroups. You have the basic R/E/A/T control and you can actually use it as a 2nd TX for another plane since you have RX. Make sure to get a Spektrum/JR cord. There have been some hassles connecting with other cords even though it's just a mono-audio cable.
You can also hook up to some 72MHz JR's, likely not worth the paltry saving in the long run unless you get one dirt cheap or free.
Don't even bother trying to connect other brands.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was just shocked thinking it was in the middle of the night in seattle. Its 10:20 Pm(still in Ireland) and I only have 2 more days to fly!! I was thinking about the DX5 as the slave. I will start looking for one now!! Used will be fine. The basic funtions will be more than adequate because the only plane I train with is the micro Champ. I must have taught 10 people how to fly using that little bird but having a trainer setup will allow me to teach on my Super Cub or even my Fun Cub. Thans for the tip. John
