The resiliency of the plane is amazing. One of my most spectacular crashes involved a too fast landing approach, too short area for final approach, and a light pole.
The SC caught the pole on the wing, about 2/3 of the way toward the outside wingtip. It put the SC into a spectacular flat spin from about 15 feet up, down to the site of the crash. It probably spun around 20 times in the short moment until it hit the ground. Amazingly the wing survived. Struts, prop and elevators were the only casualties.
The fact that it has crappy electronics is a real concern. The problem is, to upgrade to DSM2 would likely add $25-50(?) to the retail price. What would that do to keep new pilots from trying it out?

When I bought my SC from my LHS, it came as a package with a 5 channel Spektrum. I had no idea what a great deal it was until now. Forever greatful to the owner of the store.

So glad I found this thread. I'm a greenhorn and actually bought the HZ SC LP -lipo version after I bought the Airfield Cessna 182 6 channel. Why? Because I think it will be easier to learn on though I'm not too crazy about the brushed motor and 27 mhz setup. The Cessna has flaps, aileraons and lights and might be too much plane to start out with. Eventually, I want to strip out the Motor, esc, rx and servos and go 2.4 so I can use my futaba 6ex on both planes. Hopefully, there is a thread on this retro somewhere.
The vid above from bloodboughtchad is fantastic and I'm heeding this great advice. I also made a couple of quick and cheap mods to the SC: 1). Changed the fron gear wheels to 2.5 in Dub Bro's and the tail wheel toa 1". Our club field is grass , if there is such a thing in Texas. 2). Changed the prop as suggested in another forum to a GWS 10x6 HD.
Been on the sim and getting some buddy-box stick time on the club's glow Avistar trainer. Ready to maiden. Yikes !

Nice forum thread! I got the SuperCub a couple of weeks ago for my 67th birthday. Have had 4 flights on it. Enjoyed the video about the mods. I disconnected the sensors already. Thanks for the advice. Sincerely, Ted in Michigan
