I'd like to get some bigger landing gear for landing in grass at a local park. I've read many of the threads on bigger wheels and whatnot, but I can't seem to find out how to make the axles longer for bigger wheels. I'm looking at getting 60-70mm wheels, but the width of the wheels obviously requires an axle mod. Also, how do I go about getting a bigger tail wheel since that would require an axle mod as well?

I added some brass tubing to the axles, epoxy in place. I cut a thin groove in on the lathe first so that a "C" clip could be placed on the outside to hold the wheel on. They have been working fine for a couple of years now.

You may NOT have to extend the axles, depending on what wheels you find.
I recently fitted 60mm wheels. They fitted the axles perfectly without extension.
The only mod required was to slip some brass tubing (from LHS) over the axles. The 60mm wheels fitted over the tubing, then I put the original plastic "nuts" back on.
You may wish to do what I did - take your undercarriage to your LHS and try on the wheels there to find ones that fit.

Very cool, you wouldn't happen to have a link to the wheels you got renard? I think I'll go with your idea

I am looking to get a super cub in a week or so. My question is I have some grassy areas where grass is too high to take off in. Currently I am flying a cox sky ranger and I just belly land this and have no problems. The sky ranger was my first plane and I have learned a lot from it. I am getting mixed messages on post in regards to belly landing the super cub. Should I just take landing gear off and slide into grass, leave gear on and land or forget about it and find somewhere else to land.
thanks

I used some shrink rap! On axel so the bigger wheels would fit snug!! Does that make sence?

Do you mean heat-shrink tubing, Paulie?

I bought 2 3/4 inch Dave Brown Lite Wheels for 6 dollars. They work perfectly fine and no need for an axel Modification. I did by 2 4-40 lookouts. I recommend these or wheels could fall off. Anyway,I use them and am able to take off in pretty thick grass as well as good landings in the grass. There maybe a bit of air drag with the 2 and 3/4 inch wheels but its really no big deal. Also, key to taking off in deep grass is give a little up elevator when you start rolling your Cub. Keep it moderately up until tail begins to rise then push it. Hope this helps, I was looking for same info as you a short while ago.
