People are still using NiMH batteries? But why would anyone do such a thing? Perhaps it's because that's what they have and don't want to spend more on flying or don't want to take on the percieved dangers of Lipo and associated charging regime that they require. The SC flys perfectly adaquately on NiHms. Probably more realistic that our overpowered Brushless/Lipo monsters. Welcome back ccclitz BTW.

Just trying to fly again & save money. Getting an extra battery for ~$17 seems like good deal to me. Unless there's an inexpensive way to convert to lipo's (including the charger)!?

Those should be fine if you have a charger for them. I would recommend you change out the Tamiya connectors though. They are not reliable over time.
Little acknowledged reality - most newbies to flying and lipo will ruin their first half dozen lipos with crash damage and lack of information on proper care. NiMh is not a horrible way to fly, just not as grossly powered. You can learn a lot by flying the plane and wing, not just the prop and motor.

You might want to price the Art-tech 9.6v 1000mah batteries as well. Same size and shape, and a LOT cheaper!
When I first got my cub, it was the stock NiMh version......and it flew great!
Noisy and slow ( which was just fine), and really looked the part as the SC storch. ( Wow! 23rd June when I posted that! How fast has time flown, and how much have I learned!)

Yup, they have the same tamiya style connectors as the hobbyzone ones!

The best times I had with the Super cub was when it was completely stock. It was a joy to poodle around the sky.

The best times I had with the Super cub was when it was completely stock. It was a joy to poodle around the sky. Actually that's a very good point. We mostly go and upgrade the SC with B/L motors and the like and change it into something that it's not. As and when more birds are added to the hanger the SC tends to get pushed to the back and not flow regularly as the others do what a modd'ed SC can do but generally better (Gemini for instance). That's certainly the case for me. I wonder if this would be the case if the SC was stock...

Thanks for all the help guys! I'm staying stock with my SC. I just wanted more batteries so I could fly longer.

I know this is an old post, but I'm getting back into flying my SC after 4 years on the shelf. I just ordered a 1500mah 8.4v battery from cheapbatterypacks.com. I'm hoping it will allow me to stay in the air a little longer. I'm also going to order the 9.6v 1500mah from them as well. Although, I'm not sure if you have to remove the jumper on the ESC as you do with the LIPOs. This is a cheaper way to get back flying. I did however buy a better charger. (SkyCharger B6AC) And I bought an adapter to use the original Tamaya plugs with it. I do have a 4 year old RICCS Mirage 2000 EDF Jet that has never been out of the box until now...it has 3S LIPOs that I'm going to change the plugs to work with the SC. That way, when I'm ready, I can hop up the SC...and prop down.
