The first full picture of N1016R, on the frozen lake by the house. Had it out with my son's mini cub and flew for ass long as our ears and hands would hold. It was 5 deg above zero and the air was perfect for flying Attachments:

Nice picture of the two planes together.
5 degrees ABOVE zero in Alaska? You lucky people! I live in the south of the UK, where for at least two weeks it hasn't risen above minus 1. Daytime often minus 3, night minus 6 or less. Some parts of UK have been minus 18.
OK, I know that is peanuts by Alaska standards. But by what we usually experience, we just ain't used to it being so cold for so long - as evidenced by the fact that our airports, railways and roads have ground to a standstill!

Renard, I suspect that Alaska is talking in degrees f rather than celcius.

I guess I forget that some of ya all use that silly celcius instead of fahrenheit. Sorry. Thanks for nice comments on the picture though. Im back at work for the next couple weeks, but when I get back I want to take some more winter pictures and I will post.

Renard, I suspect that Alaska is talking in degrees f rather than celcius. In the immortal words of Homer J Simpson: "D'oh!!"Evidence of my advancing senility, I'm afraid - and the effects on the brain of too much late-night Scotch whisky . . . .

It could be the good Scotch and the warm weather your having. My excuse is the cold weather and colder booze!!! And I work where it's even colder! Yes, hell is frozen, and as I write this it's -33 deg. f and getting colder! It's pretty sad when I get excited to go home to 10 deg F to thaw out!

Just to continue this thread, here in gods own country (Yorkshire) it's averaging -5c ( throw in the wind chill its about -10c). Farenheiht? Us yorksire folk dun't do farenheit, cos it just has bigger numbers. ( Old yorkshire saying:'Yorkshire born, yorkshire bred, strong in t'arm, and thick in 't 'ead') and for the US cousins, it's pronounced 'York-shure' not 'York-Shire')
And..... if you are visiting, a picture of a camera does not mean a photo location, it means there its a GATSO speed camera nearby, so slow down! ( Thanks to B****e for the 55mph photo location run through a 30mph speed camera zone to correct that one! Hmmm...)
Might not be cold for Alaska, but it's screwing us up! Micro p-51 - 1s lipos usually last 3-5 mins on usage in normal temps (5-20 celcius) Now - about 30 seconds. I have to warm them on my vans heater before I get any decent flights ( about 3 minutes). New thread Idea..... How long do lipos opertate in cold weateher as opposed to warm weather? I usually use 2200 lipos for approx 20-30 mins in 'nice' (10-20c) weather. How long would these last in 'cold' weather (-5c or below) No pre-heating. I'll test this if I can get the time.

I am running the Zippy 2200 and have been getting around 30 minutes in 5 deg F ( -15 C ). I might be able to get more but my hands are past the frozen stage and I quit because of it. I belive if your battery is some what warm to begin with it will remain warm. If you started out with a frozen battery than it won't last very long at all.
