Hi everyone, I finally got around to building my new cub from parts. I decided to go back to the fun of a original cub ie no ailerons, but with a couple of mods. Parkzone 480 brushless motor (left over after upgrading my Parkzone P-51),Parkzone 30 amp esc. I had a go a covering the wing and body with super bright orange covering, it doesn't show up that well in the photo. I added original hobbzone stickers. Bigger wheels The usual battery box mods. I wanted to build a easy to fly cub, so I can teach my nephew to fly. I used the dodgy original wing struts for the photo, since replaced with the usual fishing line upgrade. Attachments:

Sorry about typos in post, I was in a hurry and didn't read it before posting Anyway what else Spektrum AR500 RX 9 gram servos, cheap ones from eBay, Tower Pro I think. I ran out of covering for the elevator, it looks a bit dodgy Also goto paint the cowl, but might wait until my nephew crashes it first I just got back from it's maiden flight, It is great, I missed the nice easy flying of a three channel plane,I filmed the flight on my cheap camera, same one dil used for his inflight pics, I just goto get some time to upload to YouTube. Won't be until next week, you guys will just have to wait.

Oh yer, I connected the rudder servo to the aileron control on the RX, I have a mode 2 Spektrum dx6i, so the elevator and rudder on both on the right stick, I find it easier, especially when coming back from flying aileron equipped planes, it prob is breaking every rule in the book

The primary roll control should be on the same stick as the elevator. If there is no ailerons, then rudder is the one. ;D

bright orange is perfect for finding your plane in trees! most of my model rockets are that color for the same reason.

A photo of my fuselage tail mod before I covered it. I cut the foam out to allow the "pops" stick to be flush. Attachments:

I also modded my fuselage where the Wing Hold Rods go. I had the problem with my original Cub where the rods worked the foam and become loose, allowing the wing to lift from the fuselage. I just cut the foam out to allow some thin plastic to again be flush with the fuselage. I also did the usual battery box mod, but everybody has seen this mod before. My thoughts regarding the battery box is that when you have a hard landing the landing gear wire spreads, and this inturn cause extra sideways force on the fueslage, and breaks it. Attachments:

i'd be very careful with the AR500 reciever. a lot of reviews have been written on the plane mysteriously de-binding during flight and crashing and just over all going whack. i'd make sure you do a range check.

I've been flying my AR500 now for a couple weeks. No issues to report.
One thing my LHS guy mentioned to do when binding is to hold the training switch 30 seconds. He said if you don't, both channels may not bind , and you'll only have one channel that binds. I haven't heard this elsewhere, but so far I've had great luck with my receiver.

Touch wood the AR500 is going strong, about 20 flights on my SC2, and a couple by my nephew. Now where did I put that Turnigy 35-36 I had lying around and 50 amp esc?
