Hey guys I recently modded my wing with ailerons but I wanted to reinforce the wing more to possibly delete the wing struts. So I purchased some 3mm carbon fiber rod and a brass coupler. I bent the coupler to compensate for the wing bend and cut the carbon fiber rod into 2 peices and glued them into the brass coupler. I cut a channel into the wing and recessed the carbon fiber rod and coupler and molded it with 5min epoxy then covered the whole thing with some really good packing tape. After completing the job I realized that I should have propably mounted this on top of the wing instead of the underside... Will this affect flight?? since I mounted on the bottom. It does not stick out much but is a slight bubble where I mounted the rod i can feel a little hump. Does the bottom have to be perfectly smooth? Has anyone else mounted carbon support on the bottom side? It seems to provide good support I just wish I would have mounted on the top. Here are some pics of my wing, ailerons, custom pinstripes, and recessed carbon rod. Please give me some feedback... Thanks

Your rod and brass coupler look identical to mine... did you put yours on top of the wing or on bottom? it is hard to tell from your pic...

Bottom. Put it back ~ 2". I found over a long time that the flex continues and the wing cracked at the brass/carbon joint area. I put an extra strip of carbon flat there. Took over a year though. That wing is still flying and it's seen a lot of miles and hard landings.

Bottom here too (I copied Fly's design, thanks Fly). As Fly touches on above, be aware that the wing will still flex under high stresses (pulling out of a dive quickly for instance). I too will add another strip across the middle just to reduce this effect (it's quite frighthening to see them flap!) when I get a roundtuit.
Yours looks fine.

Struts!! Don't want no stinking struts. That's why I did it.

I seen a video where someone flattened the wing before installing the CF rod, would flattening the wing out have an effect on the flight?

3mm? I used 6mm rod practically tip to tip. No flex....ever!

Yes, the SC will lose it's self-righting abilities if there is no dihedral. When flying this will result in you having to input to level out of a turn whereas with the standard wing it will do this itself (over time).
