I broke my prop again on my SC, and ordered from GWS a 10x6 prop on accident. I read an article on rcgroups.com that was talking about replacement props a long time ago where they were talking about the GWS 10x6 but I forgot they were meaning for Lipo set up. I am still running stock and I am wondering if my plane will fly with this prop ok with the stock battery. Will it be underpowered?

It SHOULD fly fine. I'd expect to get a little more flying time at a bit slower speed.

It will likely fly (depending on the state of your battery), it will be underpowered (worse) and may actually fly a bit longer (more efficient).

Thank you! I was bummed when I realized I ordered the wrong thing, but if I can use them until the others get here I will be happy. I have trying to find a more rigid prop for the sc - something light and strong. Gotta do some reading here while I have a day off!
I usually fly at half throttle or less, so having less power shouldn't hurt much. Just cant fly from the smaller field - gotta have more room for the take off. Would be cool to get some longer flights out of it!
Thanks again

And when you go lipo you'll have them. You may have to drill them out. I've seen them come in 4mm but mostly 3mm.

I got the following results on a fresh Zippy 2200mAh 25C 3S1P Lipo battery, stock motor, 30A ESC: Stock Prop 9x6 13.6 Amps 151W P-51 Prop 10x8 22 Amps 244W GWS DD Prop 10x6 12.1 Amps 134W So I guess with the GWS you should get longer flights but not as much power. I'll have to choose my flying days more carefully wind wise I suppose. Hope that helps ya airphotoky

Did you check the temp of the motor, I'd be surprised if it's not getting pretty warm. If so, them some of that 244W is only being used to generate heat. I can't remember the exact figure, but recall that a stock (non-LP) SC on Nimh would pull considerably less that 100 watts. The LP is obviously a fair bit more powerful than what us "pre-LP" SC owners had to learn with. I suspect there are a few less stall induced crashes with the LP by newbies than the old stock SC.

I only ran it at 22A for about 5 - 10 secs. I love my Lipos heaps.

I'd guess that you'll not like the GWS prop. It will have a lot less thrust than the stock 10x8 paddle.

I got the following results.... Do you have a small accurate fishing type (hanging) scale? It would be interesting to see how much of that power draw is turned in to thrust as opposed to heat. Optimal would be some kind of thrust stand but not too many folks go into that much. I just tie the tail to my scale and let it pull on it. It mostly accurate for comparing one prop with another on the same setup and would do for this. A 30 second run (not more) at full battery to see how hot the motor gets would be interesting too.
