well all its been awhile since ive started a thread around these parts where i attempt to monkey something up with my mediocre building skills but as i am on summer break and am bored out of my mind on rainy days ive purchased a kit to build up and fly
she is a SIG four star .40 glow powered beauty. just ordered up from tower today after much research and thoughtful consideration. i will put engine and elecs i need for my GP venus II arf on hold until this one is complete. plans are tenative as of yet and im not planning on getting her guts until the airframe is built up and covered but looking at OS .46 AX for power...or might go 4 stroke with a surpass....not sure yet. ive read that too much power makes this model too heavy and no fun to fly.
whatever we decide to go with im sure it will be a great relaxing sport flyer. i will be covering the entire build process in this thread as soon as she arrives with pictures for your own personal comedic entertainment. please no laughing at my sanding work

ive heard amazing things about this plane. it flys great built spec but the list of mods are endless. im probably gonna end up sheeting the turtledeck and wings (or at least the LE), reinforcing the fuse right behind the wing saddle, and perhaps ill even make up a balsa cowl. not sure yet. some say that it will float forever on landing and that removing one bay from each side of the wing gets it out of the air a bit faster. if i were to do every mod thought of for this kit i would never finish it before winter comes around
should be here by the weekend

you didnt ask for it but youre getting it anyways...here's the latest update on the 4S40 build. right wing half is 95% complete (had to retire for the night to let glue setup) and so far everything seems to be going along wuite smoothly. this is my first kit and i am learning something new every minute here so no doubt the left wing half will be much nicer than this first one...but as long as it's straight and true i cant complain. you know its going to be a good day when a 5 foot long box arrives at your house from tower box of goodies rudder and elevator tail feathers are solid balsa looking down the wing panel. large clumps of glue are present so that i can sand my terrbile seams flat ;D hope you enjoy the first round of pics. comments, questions, opinions, concerns please. id have more pics for you but photobucket and i dont get along...my apologies admiral

UPDATE
just pulled the wing panel from the plans and put it out on the granite countertop to see how true i started off. it has a VERY small amount of warp...id say opposing ends are between 3/32 and 1/16 of an inch off of the counter. is this going to be a problem for flight characteristics or will i be ok here? just a little nervous

Nice work Admiral. As for the warp, you may be able to take it out when you cover it although Kevin may be able to advise further on this or other methods.

ive been busy the past few days so progress is slow. actually recieved the same plane prebuilt from a guy at the club who no longer wanted it. it is a rough setup as the airframe is 10 years old but i will fly it until i finish mine. pics to come
wings complete now on my build as well. choose os .46AX for power which just came today. cant wait to mount it up and break it in. pics also to come of wings and the .46

decided to hack one wing bay from each wingtip to cut out some of the float and improve the roll rate. also ordered the covering today. i went with ultracote cream and deep red. for those of you electric fans they are the same colors used on the eflite 450 taylorcraft. hope to have at least the fuse covered before i leave on vacation this saturday
