I just bought my S.C. Upgraded to Lipo 3cell 2200 mah on second day. What a diff. I will be adding floats this year. I want to do alerion modd. I have a DX7 and they will be used as flaps as well. Is everbody trashing stock servo/radio/esc.? I know I will down the road. What servos are recomended? What size ESC for exsisting mtr? Thanks

kingjoe The servos and ESC/receiver are pretty propietary stuff (5 wires make it really difficult to re use so they get trashed, along with the stock radio). I have a stock engined plane using these servos for the rudder and elevator www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=662with a 30 amp Jeti ESC. Other plane has a 450 brushless motor with a 25 amp ESC and E-flite S75 servos (neither plane has ailerons). I think the stock SC has an 18 amp ESC but a 20 would be better and a 25 is even better. If I were using ailerons Id want a 30 amp at least. Hope this was helpful, and good luck

Joe - I have a DX6I on my Super Cub with brushless, 2200 mah 3 cell LiPo, GWS floats, and ailerons with separate servos. I used Hitec 55 cheap servos for all control surfaces with no problem. I also use the ailerons as flaps. This plane is so fast and so much fun, I probably saved a lot of money by upgrading and not buying new airplanes. You should see this thing blasting through the air and dragging those floats through rolls and loops. TOO MUCH FUN !!

with a dx7 you could program your ailerons as flaperons and wouldnt have to use an additional servo(s) for flaps. you will find that flaps are basically useless on the cub and can cause more trouble than they're worth. you seem to be confused on your motor setup. you either need to go brushless and grab a brushless ESC or use your current 480 can and get a brushed ESC that can handle lipos and has a reasonable LVC.

Thanks, I will be trashing stock equipment sooner than I thought. Went to local field today to try out my larger wheels and see how it flys with a lighter wind. I taxied, took off, rolled right dove and crashed. Looking at the transmitter, I noticed that both trims were pushed down, and right. Frist I was expericening glitching, and tried to correct. WRONG, Crash! If that wasn't bad enough, it was upside down on the edge of a small drainage ditch. At least I didn't get wet. I did go home and give the cub a bath. My daughter is 9, I thought I was done giving baths. I thought I was doing good extenidng my antena (using a DX7 I have gotten spoiled) I realized that this cheap equipment was the reason why I got a DX7. Love the plane, I am glad I had a few good experiences. But it is going on the bench before the next flight. Thanks for your help, I thought you would enjoy this story. I know I will look back and laugh one day, but not today.

dx7 has digital trims....you would've really had to hold them awhile to get to full down and right trims. you should also be doing a preflight to insure that things like trims are centered. sorry to hear about your crash

I accidentally skipped my pre-flight trim adjustments, ONCE, my son wanted to hold the TX while I changed batteries. I told him absolutely NO touching the sticks, well he didn't touch the stick but he did move the rudder and elevator trim on my HiTec Laser 4 to the extremes.
When I took off, without checking, I thought the Super Cub was done for. I brought it around and landed, rough landing, checked the plane over and found the surfaces well out of alignment then looked at radio and discovered the culprit.
My son and I learned something from this. I always DO a full check of my surfaces and trims before taking off now, same with the DX5e although not slide trims still double check everything.

Hey SC vets & newbies, Avoid trashing the junky electronics & just buy the core parts like fuse, wing, tail, cowl, gear. Then hopp up with your choice of brushless, esc, batt, etc. Cheaper, more fun and totally custom job! Agree?
