we were dopplering a friends phase3 edf f-16 when on the 3ed pass from long dive the the tail broke, sending the plane straight to the ground. it wasnt pretty, scared the crap out of me lol. only two things that survived were the motor and two servos. the polyquest 2500 4s broke the first cell in half and tore the seconded one. the ar6100 was also broke in half. good new, first pass, level he got 138-145mph, second pass riseing a bit 129mph and the third, well who knows but by the sound pattern it was still picking up speed and was going alot faster then the first pass. link to hd video |

he got over it pretty quickly, he made some mods to the other two f16 though so this dosent happen again. live and learn.

What was the determined cause of the accident, pilot error, mechanical?

Hey Duck , what kinda mods did he make to the jet. My buddy has a new motor coming for a 4s setup in his Phase3. Maybe I should let him know, just incase he doesn't already know.

it was a mechanical failure. the plane isnt built to go over 100mph, so when you do you need to start strengthening the tail. were the tail-ailerons go through is weak, you need to fiberglass, and reinforce the crap out of that area to get it to hold up to the forces. what happened with his, even though they were reinforced, when he pulled out of the dive both tail surfaces broke off and slowly floated down to earth as the rest of the plane when straight in at a high rate of speed. they were the only thing that survived. that is the thread for the pahse3 f-16, tons of info, tells ya what and were to beef up. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=761041i might be buying one of these soon. |
