Glad I found this forum.. Great place for info on the cub. After getting my first Cub and having so much fun, I decided to buy a second and do some mods. The first one flys so nice I just couldnt bring myself to doing anything to it. My second Cub new and never flown Pulling the insides out The new LG looks a little heavy Hopefully this will take a little weight off Getting rid of the bttery box to make room for a stronger mount for the LG Epoxied the new bottom in Put the 2.5 inch wheels on and sat it on just to see how she would look. Im hoping to get her finished up this evening so I can take her out for her first flight tomorrow. I am replacing the radio with an AR6100, two HS81's and going with a 1800 mah 20c lipo. Will update more when I get her done tonight..

Looks great. Keep those pictures and explainations coming. Nothing has been more helpful to this new guy than this kind of stuff. I am gradually employing some of the mods you more experienced guys share...Thanks

Got more done to the Cub tonight.. Think I will be able to get her up in the air tomorrow if the weather is ok. The landing gear I picked up at my LHS, it was made by Great Planes, I think it was a L 1/2 .09 Dural. The weight on it with battery is 1.5 oz heavier than my stock Cub. I decided to go with a 1800 mah 20c battery. Here are some more pics.. The HS-81's were a perfect fit.. I just used double sided tape on the bottom and a little silicone to hold them in. Everything fit in pretty good.. I soldered the ESC directly to the motor to cut the odds on one extra connection to fail. The AR6100 is nice and small, so it will fit just about anywhere. Im still using EC3 connectors right now just because I have been to lazy to switch everything over to dean plugs and I can just swap batteries out with my T-28. I went with a larger wheel on the back also.. I think I will be able to do a lot better on the ROG with these. She balanced out much better than I could of hoped for.. Its sitting at 1.75 inches behind the LE right here with the battery out.. With battery the wings level right out. I love this DX6I.. I have just about everything switched over to spektrum now. On this Cub, I set the DR to 65% and 100% and left expo at 100% I will get some video tomorrow if I get to take her up.. I was not worried about taking a knife to it at all.. I read enough on the forums here to know if I screwed it up to bad, it could always be fixed.. Thanks for all the tips from you guys.

Everything is looking good. Be careful using the 6100 receiver. I've heard that the range isn't very good on larger planes like the cub. Some claim to glitch at about 700'. Hopefully it will work ok for you but do a good range test before chancing all your hard work.

Well... I guess it was bound to happen someday
Good News, Bad News and Horrible News..
The good news..
The cub is like a whole new plane with Lipo.. Lots of power and it took a camera up with no problem.
The bad news..
The AR6100 has to be the worse receiver I have ever used.. Twice today on the Cub I lost total control.. The first time it came back and I was able to bring it in just fine. The second time I was not so lucky, I lost everything and watched my plane go out of sight behind some buildings.. My wife and I started the trek fearing the worse when we found her.. To my surprise, she was sitting on three wheels with noting more than the front gear bent a little.. I decided not to push my luck with it no more and put it up until I put another receiver in it.
The horrible news..
It was just to nice of a day not to fly.. So I broke out my T-28 and slapped in the new $79 Lipo I had just bought for it. I sat her down, did a range check and everything looked good.. Throttled her up and off I went.. To my horror she started climbing straight up to about 75 feet, did a perfect half loop and came full throttle right back down in to the pavement.. Sad to say, the only thing I was able to save on it was 2 servos and the freaking AR6100 that for some reason locked out my radio right after take off and did not even have enough smarts to go into failsafe mode. My new Lipo is history, the motor is shot, the wires are ripped apart in the ESC.. The worse part, my little pilot even died.. Thats right, he took a nose dive right into the window and ended up upside down.
So I will be pulling the last AR6100 I have out of my other plane and switching everything over to the AR6200.
Pics to follow in a bit..

The Cub before her first flight The Cub, The Trojan T-28 and the wifes E-Maxx My poor pilot.. He went out brave. As far a the AR6100, there are a lot of reports about the receiver locking out the radio or having glitches and a slow time reconnecting. I have used it several times in my Trojan and have not really had a problem so I stuck them in my other two planes. They were suppose to have the problem fixed with version 1.2 but im not sure now.. Guess you live and learn..

Dang! That looks terrible! Can you rebulid, or are you going to get another?
I plan to fly with an AR6000. Have you heard anything about it?
