I replaced my stock wheels with Dubro 2 3/4 inch lite foam wheels. Landing in grass is now easier, and it taxiis better on pavement. Some folks have used either larger or smaller wheels as preferred. Here is how it did it so they don't wobble: 1) The stock wheel hub is too thick to mount on the stock landing axles. Grind down one side of the hub with a dremel tool so it is flush. 2) Cut a piece of 5/32" brass tubing the exact width of the ground down hub. 3) Insert the brass tube over the axle and glue in place with epoxy, silicon glue or CA. Silicon glue will allow it to be removed later if you want to. 4) Slide the wheel over the tube. It will just fit. 5) Replace the stock wheel nut and tighten, but don't gind the wheel. (use 4-40 locknuts as replacements for the plastic ones if you lose them) The wheel will turn somewhat tight at first, but after several uses it will become freer in its movement. After it wore some I used light oil to lubricate. I also replaced the stock tail wheel with a 1" dubro lite foam wheel. I only had to drill the axle hole on the wheel slightly larger to fit. This REALLY helped taxiing on pavement.

Nice picture cjg.
I did the same mod with the main gear but haven't done the tailwheel yet. I haven't had a chance to try it on grass yet as we have snow on the ground. Does it help with rolling takeoffs on grass?
I do think they look better than the original ones.

Both wheel sets help with rolling take off on grass. I have done it successfully, but if the grass is real thick or tall it is difficult. I always have to use full up elevator in the grass or it noses over on attempting takeoff.
they do look better than the original. If I had to do it again I think I would get the Dubro's that have the diamond tread pattern instead of grooves.

I tried a different wheel which seems to work well. It isn't scale in appearance but is is very functional in most terrain.. I read in a post somewhere that a narrow wheel negotiates the grass better than a wider wheel and I found that to be correct. The wheel is made by maxxprods. www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-29.html ...scroll down

What size did you use, and did they require any mods?

hey there ,in stead of brass tubing ,which is also a very good idea cjg, i used some elect tape and put some tread lock tape at the end because i found the female treads on the stock nut becoming worn and i was wondering what size of nut would fit the axle,im planning to metal ones to replase the stock plactic one's

I went with the Dubro 2 1/2 inch - and they are perfect! Much better than the stock - have not changed the tail wheel, but will soon.

Also ordered the 1" super lite set for a tail wheel even though I already made my own. The larger tail wheel alone makes a great difference. Did they fit or did you have to drill out the rims a little?
