Needing help. I just got an old SC (ACT version). It has the Channel 1 tx and 2 Channel 1 receivers (brand new plus 2 brand new servos). I have not been able to get any action (sound, movement) out of the motor or the servos. Shouldn't I at least get some slight movement or sound even without using the TX? The battery is a 3 cell 11.1v 1300mah that is also brand new and registers good voltage. What am I missing here? I know nothing about the crystal fm setup. The TX did have some corrosion on a negative terminal, but the TX light comes on solid, so I assume it is working. Please help. Thanks.

FM does not bind-just so you know. TX should be on, throttle slider all the way down > plug in the battery > you should get 'action' if it's going to work. If not, something is wrong...obviously. Either the TX or the RX/ESC (combo). The more likely problem is the RX/ESC as it is a crappier unit. Are you SURE they are on the same channel? If not > out of luck. You should have a long antenna on the TX and on the RX/ESC. This is not 2.4GHz. Check the jumpers on the RX/ESC. Jumper ON for NiXX, off for lipo, but that should not make any difference for connecting. supercubclub.proboards.com/thread/988

FD, you nailed it!. One of my brand new RX/ESC units was DOA. My thanks to you and to Dave at Hobbyzone for help with the TX and the new receiver as well. Flydiver and Dave rock! Now I have to learn to fly this redbird.

Great. Now, check those jumpers. They used to come set for NiMh and it'll run but it'll cut off just about the time you are getting up to take-off speed when using lipo.

What prop? Big black fat 10x8, or a skinnier gray 9x6? You want the skinnier one for lipo.

The prop is a big black fat 10x8 (looks stock, but I don't really know). Would you please recommend the skinnier one you refer to above (brand and size). Thanks. lg

The prop is a big black fat 10x8 (looks stock, but I don't really know). Would you please recommend the skinnier one you refer to above (brand and size). Thanks. lg When the Cub moved to 3s lipo the prop was downsized to 9x6. The prop is the 'load'. MORE voltage makes the motor spin faster, which puts even more load on it if you use the same sized prop. The black 10x8 was for the old NiMh packs (lower voltage). If the picture on HobbyZone is right they've change the shape to look like the old 10x8. Measure it for length. If 9", use it. You can either get a stock 9x6 from a HZ dealer, or a GWS 10x6, or an APCe 10x5 thin electric. They'll all work pretty much same even though they look way different and have different apparent sizes. Unfortunately there is no standardization in props. You'll have to deal with shaft sizing and mounting for the latter 2 but they'll be cheaper. I believe the Cub shaft is 4mm, the GWS is 3mm and the APCe has adapter rings that may work. (personal rant - I dislike fitting props. Seems nothing works easily) The problem with the larger prop is it may burn out your ESC with the larger load. ESC are not cheap.

Thanks Chief. I'll go to the lhs today and see what they have.

Here's a bit of education on props+sizing, battery voltage, and matching. It seems complicated at first but it's critical you learn this stuff going forward. supercubclub.proboards.com/thread/4624Flying is easy, the electrics are hard.

Cheif, you are really being honest and upfront with me on this. I did the maiden crash within a few seconds of takeoff. I wrecked the prop, shaft ( I think) and broke a wing. Both servos are now in reverse, and the motor will not run thru the esc; it will run noisy with a direct battery connection. I plan to replace everything from the battery forward. Servos were working preflight, but I cannot say with confidence they were working in the right direcriion befoere the flight. Better pre=flight routine is in my future. Your encouragement and engagement are appreciated. lg
