Hello guys, This is my first post! I just got my SC a few weeks ago and I love it! I have a question though. Is there any way to convert the ACT into another channel for something like flaps? If so can someone explain how to do it and if not is there any way to have working flaps without purchasing a new 4 channel radio?

No, the switch just activates a circuit in the reciever. It does not put out the same juice needed for a servo. If you plan of sticking with the hobby the first mod I would do to the cub is upgrade the radio. the reason being is your next plane will likely need one.

I read somewhere that if you tape over the lower sensor, the ACT switch becomes the equivalent of a dual rate switch.

Alright, I appriciate the reply do you have suggestions on an inexpensive radio? There are so many to choose from. It seems the DX6 is a very popular choice at the moment. When i started i bought a Futaba 7 second hand (very cheap) just in case i didn't like the hobby. Couple of years down the line i still have it.

I am not sure what he meant by that but it is wrong in the text he printed. Hope he comes back and explains it....maybe I am in the dark here.

One of my first mods was to pluck the ACT sensors out to save a few grams...
I recently converted my cub to "standard" gear.. I am using a Hitec Micro 0S5, Hitec HS-55 servos and a cheap GWS ESC... the difference is HUGE. My buddy and I launched at the same time and tried to fly for duration... the combination of lighter gear and much more adjustabiliy in the throttle meant that my plane flew for about 7 minutes longer than his stock SC.
Its well worth converting....

Hi, new to the hobby. I just got an SC last week and I love it. It's true, taping the bottom sensor keeps ACT from kicking in, but leaves ACT mode on, which reduces the throw in the servos. It saved me a lot of headaches in my first few flights to reduce the twitchiness of the controls. I finally felt ready to turn off ACT today and get the responsiveness, but I'm pretty sure I would have violently crashed had I not started with it on. Tip-turn off ACT when on the runway or else the ability to steer the plane on taxi is greatly reduced.

Cant you just unplug the sensors and leave ACT on for limited control?

The best thing you can do with ACT is unplug them both and pull them out, sit them on your workshop shelf and they make a good conversation piece. "what are those things?", "oh, they were the things that made me crash all the time" since they don't seem to work below 180 feet.
I've had much better flying as a novice without them :-(
