I had thought about doing this before I covered my cub but I did not think it was strong enough. A guy on Rcuniverse proved me wrong so here is what I did. I used a dremel to enlarge the rear windows after cutting the other out with a razor blade. The rear rubber band mount is still just as strong as before. I then cut out the center of the front rubber band mount and epoxied the ends in place. I cut out the front window. The post the front mount is on is strong enough to fly with but I won't chance it. I am going to clean it up a little better then epoxy a wooden support on the inside that runs down to the battery box. As for a windshield I think a 2 liter coke bottle will work perfectly.

Something tells me to tell you not to pull out of a dive very hard. It might not be a bad idea to reinforce it all with cf like grid work in the uprights. It sure looks sweet though! I am going to do it to one of mine but need to make a structure first. Man you guy's are coming up with some good ideas. Keep the pics coming and maybe a report of how it flies now.....maybe even a vid? Nice job buick!

I am going to redo the wing struts, so no worries. If the struts are tight I can put all the G's I want on the wing. the load rest on the struts.

If you cut open a 2 liter bottle can be used for your windows.

I flew with no windows and stock stuts . Flew fine. I did some loops and flew fairly aggresivley with no evident fatige on the window pillars. I think it will last since it is reinforced with wood but I will upgrade my struts tonight

I gave the final test today. I flew around this morning, and did some steep dives and pulled verticle as hard as I could into a loop. Thats coming down full throttle with the 3 cell lipo so she dives quick. I figured if it is going to fail I did not want it to do so when people could get hurt so I did it early this morning by myself. I used stock struts and there is no fatige on the front struts so I am safe. I am making some new struts from aluminum so I will be able to fly inverted without deforming the wing.

Nope. You can fly inverted by pulling up elevator like you are going to loop and once inverted stay that way. Sounds easier than it is with the cub. The cub does not like being upside down. It will want to right itself. And make sure you have plenty of altitude.

I have already thought of doing something similar to this with the front windshield of a spare fuselage I am getting. I wanted to be able to insert my Mobius camera directly into the front windshield. However, the Mobius has two heat syncs on the top of it that get really hot pretty quickly when filming. I wouldn't want it to deform or melt the foam in any manner. In addition, many of the videos that I see which shoot forward over the nose have a problem with the props showing and annoyingly interfering with the view. It is interesting to see this mod, but I was wondering about all the wind whipping inside the plane as it flies and just how that would effect it? It would be nice to be able to insert and remove the camera easily in this position, but it would take some playing about with the fit before hand...
