I remember awhile back, someone posted and article regarding the Dept. Of Homeland Defense issueing warnings that RC aircraft could be used to carry out acts of terrorism. Well..thanks to SCC, found a vid that makes it seem as though the feds are getting serious!! Keep your eyes on the sky!! ;D Can't link directly to vid, but open link, second vid down on right. www.rcflights.co.uk/EasystarEquip.htm

Holy Moly! That would be nuts! I wonder how fast that jet was traveling? This is insane!

This topic gets discussed from time to time. There are so many more practical and economical delivery systems than this. Why would spend all the time and money to build an RC plane to carry the payloads required... the plane would have to be sizable and expensive. Why do that when its so much easier to use other methods.
All that aside, great little video.

You're right, it may be easier to use other methods. However, imagine someone of high authority making a speech (whether it be the president/senator...ect...) where there is very tight security, hence it being difficult to sneak some kind of weapon in. Now don't get me wrong, I love rc planes, but imagine how easy it could be to strap a mid size gas (maybe electric) jet plane with a real time camera and a few pounds of explosives. I couldn't see anyone shooting it down.
(lightbulb goes off) On the other hand, couldn't they just jam common rc frequencies?

Yeah... haha, as soon as you said "shoot down" I thought of radio freqs. They regularly use jammers on the IUD disposal teams overseas. I'm sure if RC aircraft became a problem.. it wouldn't be too hard to throw up a jammer so aircraft couldn't be reliably flown within a meaningful radius of the speaker. Easy enough to defeat, the technology is already there and in use. But, don't let me discourage thinking and constructive discussion. But, I think that it gets talked about a lot and some people are getting REALLY excited about it in some of the forums...

I was wondering what would have happened had the Easystar gone through the intake on that jet!! I know birds can down a fighter, and they don't have metal and plastic inards like a plane.

I agree. But what about the new spektrum technology? Obviously someone has to be keeping up with this kind of stuff. You'd have to be pretty fast to jam a signal coming at you at 130 mph (don't get any ideas mugen ;D) Unless of course the most frequencies are jammed to begin with. but there have to be complications to this. For example, what if there was a mining site nearby that used a certain frequency to detonate dynamite?
I suppose government intelligence isn't totally an oxymoron ;D

You "know" all those bigwigs in Washington are hard at it right now...(1) Looking for some rogue country that they can say are plotting such an attack!! and (2) Building minurature frequency seeking missiles they can launch from nearby rooftops!! Hmmm..sounds like a fun afternoon!! Get all those beaters up for one last flight, and shoot'em down!!
