Some of you might have seen my earlier post of my aerial photos and video of the flooded Salt River in Phoenix, Arizona. Well, those shots pale in comparison to the ones I was able to get this afternoon.

As a recap from before... For those unfamiliar with the Phoenix area, the Salt River used to run through the middle of the entire metropolitan area. In 1999, the river was dammed in Tempe to create the Tempe Town Lake. Ever since, the river bed west of the lake has been typically dry. Due to the rain we've received in the past week, they had to release water from the lake, which has once again filled the Salt River bed.
This afternoon, I got the chance to actually get up close and personal to the river to get some great shots of it and the flooded 67th Ave. Even though the road has been closed, you will notice some people violating Arizona's "Stupid Motorist Law", which basically states that you are liable for paying for any rescue efforts if you happen to get washed away while driving through a flooded area. While flying to get these shots, I saw at least two cars start to get swept away by the river. Lucky for them, they managed to regain enough traction to get across before going over the edge of the road.

So, without further adieu, below are pics. I should also note, that I have a video that I recorded too. Once I get it edited and uploaded to Vimeo, I'll post that here as well.
1) How more obvious could this be?
2) Low altitude shot of the Salt River overflowing across 67th Ave.
3) High altitude shot of the flooded 67th Ave looking west.
4) The normally dry Salt River valley in its wet state.
5) The Salt River valley looking east from 67th Ave.
6) Small off-shoot of the Salt River with a quarry and South Mountain in the background.
7) The intersection of 67th Ave and Southern Ave in Laveen, Arizona.
8) Looking north up 67th Ave. Notice the road closure signs.
9) Several people violating Arizona's "Stupid Motorist Law" (Ref ARS 28-910).
10) More people violating Arizona's "Stupid Motorist Law".
11) View of my neighborhood looking southwest. The park I normally fly from is on the right.
12) On final approach for landing.
13) More "stupid motorists" and a bonus cowboy.
