I decided to take the Cub up high today and take some pictures. I usually have a stopwatch with me to time my high flights since I can't hear the motor slowing down but this time I forgot it. After awhile it was a speck up there and I was busy snapping photos. I decided to come down and after a few minutes at idle I became concerned that it didn't appear that it was coming down. On top of that the wind was picking up and pushing it downwind. I finally started a dive although I couldn't really see what it was doing. When it got low enough that I could see the wings clearly I breathed a sigh of relief and hit the throttle to bring it back to me. Trouble was I was at LVC and I almost hit a powerline and I crashed into a ditch. I feared the worst but the only damage was a broken wire in the camera setup. Here is picture showing how high I was:

You are a braver man than me. The wind is pretty calm close to the ground do to surface friction. Once you get up high enough it will change direction and blow much stronger. I fly helicopters and the picture looks like what I see at about 800-1000 feet or so. You are high enough to get in the stonger winds and they can over power a stock SuperCub with ease. Nice pictures though!
