I'd like to get a flatout plane setup for the backyard (will one acre work?) I'd also like to keep the budget at $100. I need the plane, servos, esc, motor, and 11.1v battery.
Any suggestions? I'd like to get some of the items from hobbycity since it's so cheap. Also, a biplane would be nice ;D
Unfortunately, I'm a total noob when it comes to cut out foam planes... Would you guys help me decide a decent package? Any help is much appreciated ;D

the great planes planes are ok. I am not too fond of the hinging on them but some hinge tape cures that. Tower has a bunch of them for under 30 bucks that come with motor/gearbox assy's. I have a few of them and they fly like on rails. Not a bad choice for the money.

I'm no expert, but that HXT motor should have plenty of power. You might want to compare it to the recommened motor from Great Planes to be sure. BTW.. I've had good luck so far with Hobby City stuff. M

Recommend you do a little more digging. This is what is recommended by Tower: ElectriFly RimFire 28-26-1000 Brushless Outrunner Electric Motor Can Diameter: 28mm Can Length: 26mm RPM/V (kV Rating): 1000 Weight: 1.4oz (41g) Input Voltage: 7.4-11.1V Max. Constant Current: 12A Max Surge Current: 15A Max Constant Watts: 135W The motor you are looking at is pretty small, too high of a KV and a bit low on Watts: Weight: 27g (with 10cm wire) Power: 98W Kv: 1780rpm/v Turns: 15 Resistance: 642 Idle Current: .7A Max amp: 15A (15sec burst) For 3-D you want to swing a larger prop slowly. Try to match the Rimfire KV, Watts (or a little more), and similar weight. Something like this: donsrc.com/cart/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=40That plane is a bit of a 'sinker'-doesn't float without power on continuously. My buddy has one with an e-flite 400/920KV. Doesn't knife edge hardly at all according to him. fly

Thanks for the extended response. Is there another motor from hobbycity that would work? I checked all of them and this seemed like the closest. If I don't end up changing it, do you think it would pull the plane/hover/vertical...? Thanks ;D

That last one looks like it might work, but I defer to Flydiver; seems he has experience with the 3d type aircraft. M

That last HC motor looks like it might work-specs are OK. The 400XT is a known performer on small 3-D planes. I've got a couple buddies that use them. Follow the thread and read some of the reviews. That's what I intend to put on mine, the cheap Yak that HL is selling. Price is almost identical to HC. Figure HC adds about 14% with shipping.
FWIW I have NO experience with 3-D. I do try to figure out how the whole motor/battery/prop/etc. packages work. I figured I had to when I started putting together my own power plants. A wattmeter and knowing how to use it is a VERY useful tool. LOTS of people make the "wrong" KV motor mistake. I had correspondence with a guy that put a 6000KV motor direct drive in a wing. Burned up in 30 seconds, actually melted some stuff. His LHS recommended it for the application. Nitwits.

Why is that? They may not look realistic, but I think that I'll learn a lot of tricks to perform on my cub/easystar. . .
