hi, i just got a Super Cub as a Christmas present ;D, i can aleady fly , so i have some 3S lipos an some 9 cell NiMh packs, what im thinking is instead of cutting on this new plane is rig a couple straps of velcro on the belly at the battery door, so i can strap a pack under there, seems it be easyer to change them out and in the event of a crash it probley eject the pack away from the plane, instead of weight of a pack inside slamming against what evers in its way in front of it. plus i can avoid cutting on a new plane, i hate doing that,LOL. i think this work pretty good, and i really dont care how it looks with a pack strapped under it.it look like a payload of bombs or something huh? hahhahaha . this seems like a cool forum. THANKS ;D

rcairplanepilot,
Merry Christmas and welcome to Super Cub Club! You are right. It is very easy to modify the SC to suit one's need and there is never just one way to do it. Be sure to share your experiences with us.

I used to use a 7_cell AA pack. The door wouldn't close so I used rubber bands to the wing mounts to keep it partly closed. Worked fine. There is a balance between batter security and "ejection". You REALLY don't want the battery flying off while doing acrobatics > no control at all without power. Lean toward security.

hi, flew that sucker with a 3S lipo today, BIG differance. one thing i didnt like is motor just shuts down when battery low, no getting that lil'bit extra juice to limp it on home.LOL. im gonna rig a switch up next for that "jumper" for battery type . yeah be a drag battery fall off,LOL. i was going by how some planes are designed to eject battery an the wing in a crash in hopes of minimizeing damage, yeah it have to be held on so wouldnt just fall off,LOL .

Not sure if it works with lipo, but if you slide the throttle to off and then back on, it will give some power back to the motor. I have never tried it, too scared to get to that point. ;D Like the idea about the switch for nimh/lipo.

Hmm, should work though I can't say I've ever tried it. I don't like taking lipos down that low-not good for long life.
If you leave the jumper on it will revert to NiMh cut-off. If you push it you will destroy your lipo in short order with the cut-off so low.

you never flown yer cub with a 3S lipo? man, you dont know what yer missing, ;DLOL. if you use common sense it wont hurt them. ;D i made a switch that runs the "jumper" i can run both type packs now, plus i rigged up straps where i can just hang a 9 cell pack under it, flys awesome, looks cool, of course motor life be shortened useing lipos or 9 cell NiMh packs but i dont care, motors cheap, but probley when it go's out ill switch to a outrunner, switch it all out, an use guts on something else, like a wally world chuck glider conversion, thats a blast, ive done a few

on the stock pack or with a lipo, my cub pretty much flys its self, with a 9 cell strapped under that sucker i have to fly it,LOL, that extra weight makes a differance, i get better duration on a 9 cell, but dont seem like as much get up an go as i was expecting, guess that "punch" of a 3S lipo has just spoiled me hahhahaha.
