Hi all still learning the basics so hope i make some sence I needed a spare batterie so looked at an upgrade from the standard 7 cell that hz supply. in the book supplied it mentions an upgrade to an 8 cell. i asked my local hobby shop and they supplied me with an 8 cell ni-mh 1000mah. now ive been told i cant charge this on the charger supplied, something to do with it being a car charger and the amps? now my original 7 cell charges in the car at 1.2a my pz mustang 9 cell, car charger, charges at 1.4a they did say turn the mustang charger down to 1.0a and it should be ok ? i dont get it, 1.4 for a 9 cell, 1.2 for a 7 so why 1.0a for a 8 cell and why not on the supercub charger, it has 1.0 on it

There are two issues with regard to charging: 1) Number of cells (maximum volts) 2) Capacity of batteries (amperage of batteries).
The SC car charger only charges up to 7 cells. 8 Cells is too much voltage - has nothing to do with the charge rate (1a, 1.2a, or even 1.4a)
I don't know the amperage of your Mustang batteries. The amperage you charge a battery varies on the MAH rating of the battery (yours is 1000mah or 1 amp). You PZ battery may be bigger (1400mah?), which is why it can charge at 1.4 amps. Charging your 8 cell SC battery at 1 amp means it will charge in 1 hour, just about the perfect charge rate for that battery. You could use 1.4a, it would shorten charge time, but it would generate more heat and shorten the life of your battery. You could probably charge it a 1.2 and be ok.

if your p51 came with the PKZ1519 car charger then you ok, it will handle 10 cell's and up to 1.8 amps. i used it to charge my elite 1500 8 cells and it worked ok. i see your in the uk, and i think i have see that the euro version of the super cub didn't come with a wall charger, but if it did it will do 8 cell batteries too, but it will take all night to charge it.
and like cjg said the recommended charge rate for most batteries is 1c, or at the capacity of the battery, if you have a 1500mha battery then charge it at 1.5 amps, and if you have a 2500 mha battery then charge at 2.5 amps.

thanks all, thats great advise. i will try it at 1.0a with the pz charger and see how it goes. duck9191, you are correct, we only get the car charger in the UK kit feel ive been ripped off there, but used to it living in UK with all the taxes and petrol prices we pay! Thanks again
