Going to sort of rant here a bit , about this subject

here in the US and evidently across the world ( as i see many videos of people complaining )
New Laws and Regulations and rules are being made and in some cases already made. And not good for many

here we know our Current President signed a bill at the end of last year ( October )
that basically gives our FAA ( Federal Aviation Administration ) a blank check
to do as they please, make laws, rules, regulations with out over sight

I had written the Prez, but to no avail, it was signed anyway and i am sure he did not read it
only signed it because someone told them to.

Now I am not knocking safety or protecting manned aircraft and airports etc
But we all know any entity tied to a Government that gets free reign , well it is never good for us

Now I did not go through the whole law ( most of it is over my head )
But many are making videos concerning airspace classes and what you can or can not do in them

We all know Class G airspace is basically uncontrolled in most cases is from the ground to 1200 AGL ( Above Ground Level )
Class E is from 1200 AGL and up basically and Controlled...BUT in some areas that Class E goes to the surface ( ground or AGL )

We know as hobbyists most are to get permission to fly within 3 to 5 miles of an airport not an issue never has been

Now I am no expert on this subject, but i have been flying at my current location for a little over 8 years now
I live 9.3 miles from my local airport..it does not have Huge airliners as it is a small rural airport

I have always paid attention to aircraft etc...and know where I fly is legit and have no issues

BUT, now with the NEW LAW.......
The law pertaining to recreational operations has changed as of Oct 5th, 2018 with the signing of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018. Sec. 349 subsection (a) states that all recreational operations within Class B, C, D and the lateral boundaries of the surface area of Class E airspace require prior authorization.

as I tried to research the classes of Airspace and reading about Aeronautical charts

I have always been in Class G airspace and far enough from the airport and was no issue
BUT now looking at an App called AirMap that gives information you can see it here app.airmap.io

anyway...I figured out they have extended the Class E ( controlled airspace ) in my area
and from my local airport in every direction near and in some areas Over 20 miles out from it .

what that basically does is classify it as Class E all the way to the surface ( ground )
So I am potentially breaking the law every time I fly anything , anywhere around here

How do I get authorization ?
The FAA is currently developing a framework to provide recreational authorizations and has committed to provide further guidance. For more information, see www.faa.gov/news/updates/?newsId=91844 ( they are clueless )

SO at some point I have to get permission from the FAA itself to fly here in the coming future

I can not even fly my tiny whoop style quads here without being in violation of the New Law

and if reported for whatever reason the Sky Police can potentially come in, arrest me , fine me into the Thousands of dollars
and confiscate every thing RC I own....and do so without a warrant as the Law gives the FAA that authority

seems many in the UK read about the Gatwick fiasco and a couple arrested and their home torn up
and then turned loose because it was a sham and no Drones have yet to be found or seen

And at Heathrow where a man was arrested for flying near the airport and the charge
was flying without getting permission from the Control Tower to do so

Both those type incidents are being seen across the world in various places with drone sighting claims no one ever can verify

We do not know the rules or laws or regulations because they have yet to tell us everything or what to and what Not to do

Even the local flying club here is in that now controlled E class airspace ( wonder if they will get permission ?)

I fly where I do, because of my limited abilities and my health and have to be close to home
So if I for some reason would not be able to get permission from the FAA
my Hobby is basically over .

sad , every time a Hobby does well and people have fun, the Government steps in regulates, and charges the fun out of it

I also read where they are creating a test that must be passed also...the Part 107 Commercial License test here
is $150 dollars to take...one has to travel to a testing center and most of the test was about manned aircraft
information and little to nothing about Drones or RC anything .

hard to say what the charge will be for that test for hobbyists

I always said it was about money as this RC hobby Boomed and people were making Big Bucks
and the Government saw that had to get their share..people told me it had nothing to do with money...

well as over 1 million people registered and it was $5 dollars per person to do so do the Math
and then include over 10+ thousand ( probably more ) that paid $150 dollars for Part 107 license
THAT is a LOT of Money in a short amount of time for the Government

Now they will charge more for the new Hobby test and then the registration fee will increase

BUT, what i look for to happen is, many will either be forced Out of the hobby for various reasons like money/costs
and the commercial entities will fill the skies and push many more out or into certain club fields only
and that is what the AMA is wanting and have been after for awhile now...and i believe the Individual hobbyist
will be no more because of it

It is a shame, and it makes me angry, as they already limited other hobbies like fishing, hunting etc
they regulate it, over charge for it and then only allow it to happen in less and less areas .

Appears this RC hobby is heading for the same like pasture.....

leaves me frustrated and angry

Hello Ed , i am monitoring the situation over here ,at the moment the" gov", has its time occupied with the brexit fiasco.heaven knows what air regulations will fall out of that. There is an awful lot of nonsense and flat out lies being fed to us  park flyers ,with the gatwick  and heathrow  situations   still rumbling on , i should think the rc shops are taking a big hit ,people aren't going to spend good money on something that might well land you in trouble with the law,and most police will act in a knee jerk reaction because the situation is fluid ,and they themselves would not have the time to keep abreast with current information .I think governments are itching to catch a park flyer to make a test case out of

Personally i am surrounded by Law Enforcement officers of different degree's

from normal patrolmen to a great neighbor in the Chief of Detectives

and have kept them in confidence with all the Laws and regulations ( they knew nothing about )

But now the departments here are finally getting in on the "drone" craz

they have to go to classes to learn and get certified and get licenses to

But it is hard to tell what direction they will be told to deal with people like me concerning
the Rc Hobby....I am sure it will not be for my good...lol

Yeah I have been asking several hobby shop folks I have bought from over the years
WHY they have not banded together to address the FAA issues. They potentially stand to be put out of business
depending on the New Laws the FAA comes up with .

But they like the rest of us depended to much on the AMA ( Academy of Model Aeronautics ) to be a voice
for us in Washington DC ....and they sold us out while trying to force membership and AMA club field flying only.

and So here we are....most of it will not be a real issue I do not think..but in my case for example
if I can not get authorization as an individual RC Pilot....I could lose another Hobby and this one ( Flying )
I have dreamed of doing since childhood Took me many years to see it fulfilled....
Sure do Not want to lose that ability now .

New change until it changes again

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has posted a rule in the Federal Register requiring small drone owners to display the FAA-issued registration number on an outside surface of the aircraft. Owners and operators may no longer place or write registration numbers in an interior compartment. The rule is effective on February 25. The markings must be in place for any flight after that date.
The FAA has issued this requirement as an Interim Final Rule—a rule that takes effect while also inviting public comment. The FAA issues interim final rules when delaying implementation of the rule would be impractical, unnecessary, or contrary to the public interest. In this case, the agency has determined the importance of mitigating the risk to first responders outweighs the minimal inconvenience this change may impose on small drone owners, and justifies implementation without a prior public comment period.
The FAA will consider comments from the public on this Interim Final Rule, and will then review any submissions to determine if the provisions of the ultimate Final Rule should be changed. I have no issue with that, But i did write to them as they said they will allow Public response to a rule
that is already a Finale Rule .

My concern there are a lot of evil people who do things for that purpose
IF someone see's your aircraft and comes over to look and steals that Registration number
and then goes places it on an aircraft/quad to do some evil or harm and suddenly YOU are the one
they come after swearing it was YOU.....it will be hard to say it wasn't when they have your number
all over their aircraft ....

once again a rule they never considered adversities before actually making it a New Finale Rule .

well another short rant i guess

I traveled over to our Local Airport today to see what i needed to do to fly legally as i learned I am in
Class E2 ( surface) airspace

I meet with the Airport manager, a very nice and friendly fella, and he let me know that actually
the airspace has always been classified that way ( was not on older maps )

I supplied him with maps and asked questions etc and he stated an airport 50 miles away controls all the aircraft
that comes even to our local one .

He said he saw no issue with flying below the tree's however if i was going to fly over them , he suggested I contact
the Control Tower at that other airport and see what they say about it .

Seems E2 airspace requires authorization from a ATC ( Air Traffic Control ) to fly . This airspace according to the FAA is controlled space
all the way to the ground...that potentially makes even flying a tiny whoop illegal...imagine that ?

FAA says they will make a way to get authorization at some point, but who knows when that will be
Anyway my next move is to contact that other Airport and try and gain some insight and perhaps permission to fly
The local airport manager gave me the numbers I need to contact them

and I also see where the FAA is trying to devise a way for us to fly aircraft over people in certain circumstances and
also allowing some night flying abilities

well here it is April 3rd 2019 finally got to fly some

it has been windy here for months today was no different, but it was sunny and warmer

SO finally got to fly , as because of the wind had to fly my quads

I have studied my location got all my ducks in a row as it were

learned to give my information in the terms of aviation talk

learned to say my name, FAA registration number , cell number and my coordinates all using the AVIATION phonetic alphabet

all in preparation to talk to air traffic control have my coordinates , distances, local reference points etc etc

well gave them my name and what i was calling for , and explained what the FAA required of me per the law

and they said they never heard of any of it before and did not know it said that .....

so upon explaining I asked if thus is how I was suppose to notify them
and they said I did not have to at all..and where I was even tho in Class E
I did not need to do anything.....( not what the FAA claims ) But they are ATC

Anyway , he asked the exact distance from my local airport and I told him and he said nope
did not need to call, he said I could, but was not necessary .

And actually gave me approval to fly here and used the words, " You are Approved go fly as you wish."

SO that is what I did...now the issue may be that the FAA states
and I read it to them ;
“No person may operate a small unmanned aircraft in Class B, Class C, or Class D airspace or within the lateral boundaries of the surface area of Class E airspace designated for an airport unless that person has prior authorization from Air Traffic Control (ATC).”

odd is he never heard of that before and it is the FAA's own section 14 CFR § 107.41 Operation in certain airspace.

and it says have to have PRIOR AUTHORIZATION...so with his words : YOU ARE APPROVED
and when i asked if this is how they wanted me to notify ( as that is all i am required to do )
and they did not deny but APPROVED...seems to me I am set to fly as I have always done
since he said I did not have to call and where I was , was not an issue...SO

I wrote all that down, time date etc...But did NOT get his name
so I think if and or when I get to fly my normal fixed wing aircraft
I will call again and notify and let them know what i was told last time
and this time try and get a name of the Controller and see what is said

but not going to be in that much of a hurry to do so.....I dreaded calling, but glad I did
and now realize it was not so bad and in fact better than I could have wished.

SO unless something else changes ...guess I am good to go, from now on...LOL

Hello Ed ,so common sense wins in the end ,also the poor old traffic controller probably had a hundred and one things on his mind.Also i think  pilot trainers  tend to bring their pupils over the fields we fly at ,because they like to see rc planes flying as well . I have even been flying my tiger moth ,doing a loop when a real one came along  ,at a safe distance and we flew together for the length of the field ,he even waggled his wings at the end to say goodbye.Anyway i recieved my new orange tx6i ,nice piece of kit £82 with a receiver  ,free postage .Now this is where the problem starts, i set up the tiggy with a spectrum receiver i had lying about,all going well until i turned off the tranny ,with the batty still connected in the plane.The failsafe on the receiver packed up ,the tiggy started up full power,took off from the dining table ,and sank the prop in my arm. I had to lean over and pull the batty out will my other hand,talk about exciting.I know have the tiggy bound up with a newer specky receiver the same model number , i tried the failsafe again ,holding the back of the fuse this time ,then turned off the tranny and waited for the blood to flow .Not a squeak out of the motor  this time  luckily

Yeah, appears these Traffic controllers are also not being told the rules as they change either

well laws have changed again...seems the FAA can not get it's act together
and now pandering to the AMA forcing membership as that is what the AMA has been wanting

Now for the time being NO ONE can fly in controlled airspace EXCEPT in fixed sites
which btw are ALL AMA club fields .

Their claim is they are trying to incorporate recreational hobbyists into the LAANC system
( Low Altitude Authorization Notification Capability ) right now all commercial pilots
can just apply for authorization on their cell phones and can get authorization or denial in seconds

SO why didn't the FAA set that up BEFORE stopping all recreational flights in controlled airspace
except for fixed sites ? ( AMA club fields ) ...well the AMA for the past 5+ years has been lobbying
for forced membership and AMA club field flying only, appears someone in the FAA is appeasing them
by doing so

What is maddening is the fact the FAA states in their new mandate that they do NOT recognize any
CBO ( community based system ) written this way ; Until the FAA establishes the criteria and process and begins recognizing CBOs, it cannot coordinate the development of safety guidelines. Accordingly, no recognized CBOs or coordinated safety guidelines currently exist, as contemplated by section 44809

but yet their new mandate that says NO ONE can fly in controlled airspace except for fixed sites the FAA chose

SO potentially as those controlled airspaces can stretch out from an airport 20-50 miles
that stops hundreds of thousands of people from flying in local parks, their yards, schools
whatever except designated fixed sites which again btw are AMA Only club fields.And most of them are IN
that Controlled Airspace ...so how can the FAA deny some but allow others ? That sounds to me like discrimination.
So what they are saying in my opinion is unless you become a AMA member and fly in a AMA sanctioned club field
you can not fly at all....which is btw illegal as the FAA can not force anyone to join a CBO or pay dues
to any entity to do so .

The History of that mandated membership desire was blantantly spoken out by the AMA's Rich Hanson in an OpEd in the Hill
awhile back where he basically stated that IF you are NOT a AMA member you can not fly recreationally( for fun )
and must have a Part 107 license ( Commercial ) to be legal and anyone who is NOT a AMA member is a rogue and a criminal and needs punished.

Well that is when I dropped my AMA membership and did not and WILL NOT renew it , as i asked about that before Hanson's OpEd
and was assured the AMA was not going to do that, well they LIED
So will i will not fly in a AMA club field, will not pay the morons in Muncie ( AMA) any money nor pay any club to fly in a field
that mandates the AMA membership which means ALL clubs as I know of None that are NOT AMA member mandated.

And here is the AMA's own claim on their site
In the near future, hobbyists and drone operators will no longer have to notify every airport within a five mile radius before an operation. When this provision is removed, it will be replaced by a new requirement that operators in controlled airspace will be required to seek authorization from towered airports, unless flying from a charted flying site. We successfully championed that if you are flying at an AMA flying field or sanctioned event, you can continue flying as you always have following AMA’s safety program and within the existing agreements your club or contest director has with nearby airports.
The FAA has begun contacting clubs within controlled airspace to make certain they have a written letter of agreement in place. SO they say the FAA is contacting AMA clubs to ensure they have a LOA ( Letter of Agreement ) when the FAA says they do NOT
recognize any CBO or their safety guide . Thus indeed are forcing mandate membership into the AMA and forced dues to any recreational Hobbyist
who is flying in controlled airspace and normally would contact ATC to do so for free and NO CBP membership

SEE the utter corruption the AMA has been lobbying for in Washington DC ? the AMA is out to force hobbyists to be members
as their numbers have declined greatly over the years and even they created a task force in 2010 to boost membership and now that it failed
they have lobbied Congress and the FAA to force membership to boost their numbers .
A once decent organization that lead people to believe they were working for the hobbyist has turned out to
be a Trojan horse and now that they got their voices heard in DC and with the FAA folks well you see the snakes they truly
are .

they boasted their numbers to be near 200,000 people well upon inspection it is no where near that number and over 50,000 are children
in STEM programs . And the FAA 's own numbers showed that over 1+ million have registered on their Drone web site
SO that potentially means at or near 900,000 people have registered who ARE NOT AMA members...something the AMA can not stand
so they are trying to force mandated membership to get more people.

I figure most people will simply ignore the FAA's mandate and will continue to fly as they always have.
For enforcing that mandate will be near impossible unless someone does something openly to cause harm
or an incident would occur the FAA will never know where or who or IF anyone is flying in controlled airspace.
At this moment law enforcement is clueless and even they have not been addressed about the subject , at least
not around here .

BUT that brings me to this...as i have flown multiple aircraft and did register in order to do so and have
for many years now and even spoke to two separate airports to get authorization and to learn what is what
and what i have learned is most airports and Air Traffic control is clueless about all these laws and mandates
and new rules the FAA is claiming . One Controller when i told him about the airspace requirement had never
heard of no such thing . SO that goes to show the FAA who can not even police it's own manned aircraft issues
can not even remotely take care of the UAS ( RC Hobby ) issues .

From defective aircraft to pilots raping fellow pilots to killing animals, stuffing some into over head baggage spaces, to equipment failures and scheduling failures
and security failures and drunken and drug addicted pilots to many planes landing on highways and into neighborhoods etc etc etc etc
How are they ever going to control and police RC toys or who and or where someone flies ?

Seems this Nation has lost it's mind, BUT one thing i noticed the screaming and videos of "drones " coming close to manned aircraft
suddenly has not been seen or talked about here in the US the last couple years.
BUT now in the UK and other places you see what the US saw a few years ago with many drones near manned aircraft stories the gloom and doom
of the dreaded drones...which btw seem to be all a LIE as I think it was Gatwick fiasco that turned out to be a scam ? And now places
like Australia demands hobbyists wear hardhats ? and so many other moronic rules and outlandish fee's ...appears it is all a SCAM
from the get go, just a way for Governments to steal more rights and charge people for stealing them away ....

Needless to say i am angry and frustrated and will NOT comply
in fact I will not register again

I will simply fly only Micro sized aircraft from now on as they do NOT require registration
and I will fly them on my own property and my own field and pity anyone who comes there and tries to say i can't .
the SCOTUS ( Supreme Court of the U.S. ) years ago ruled the Government did NOT own the airspace over ones property up to so high'and since the FAA claims
they mandate what ceiling/Height that is ....and has done so at my location it is 400 feet AGL ( above Ground level)
that means I can fly that high and they have NO SAY and I am sure any Lawyer worth their salt could make that stick

and what is funny a local club here on that list is in the glide slop of the local airports main runway and it's ceiling
is only 200 feet. SO why would they potentially place manned aircraft in danger by pushing even more hobbyists into
that location ? Just goes to show whoever is in charge of the FAA's UAS program is an idiot and clueless of how this hobby
works...as for around 100 years hobbyists have been flying safely in the airspace with NO issues and no incidents and no
manned aircraft interaction that has caused ANY harm or deaths or even equipment damage and yet they act as if it is a constant
incident that has NEVER happened.

meanwhile manned aircraft continue to fall out of the sky and hundreds die and they worry about a little piece of foam or
a little carbon fiber they claim MAY potentially cause a problem one day, maybe never who knows . BUT we are going to destroy
the RC Hobby to satisfy Commercial entities and line lobbyists and Politician Pockets in the process.

Hello ED ,that was a very well put together rant. What i cant get my head round is the fact that around the world we still have clubs dedicated to rocket operation, how the hell does that work  , i mean i have just built this mahoosive projectile ,filled it with rocket fuel now i am going to press the button and launch it into the airspace , not got a clue how high it will go ,or if the wind will catch it and it end up in the next state, but the government wants cheap methods of sending up satellites ,so perhaps one day lol . The only people who seem oblivious to all the new laws ,seem to be the rc plane manufacturers ,they are still churning out product ,and i for one am buying it.Dont ask me how but recently there has been a relaxation of fiscal restraints ,i mean two planes in one month ,the fms ez and a flite test night radian with safe select. I flew it once on safe and was in danger of nodding off to sleep ,so back home to re-bind  ,safe out the window  back to the field and wahay ,three loops in succession power off ,power climbs to the heavens  ,hmm 400 ft i mean  . Yank back on the stick full left rudder four spins  back on elevator and away she goes again.You know me at some point video capture will take place , i still haven't really used the lights yet ,we still have the light evenings at the moment it dont get dark till after my bed time . I imagine like you i shall carry on flying until the authorities cart me away ,all i can say is dont let the doom sayers grind you down ,now i am just off to charge a batty

I am surrounded by law enforcement officers from Chief of Detectives ( one of the best neighbors I have )
to many patrolmen and from various Law agencies and I keep them up to date and they have never been addressed
over any drone information.
In fact the department just got a Huge drone and had to send officers to get certified and licensed to use it
and it also has a transponder built in, so it can be see by other aircraft .

And as one stated IF my flying was a danger to any manned aircraft at the attitudes I fly. the entire neighborhood is in danger as the manned
aircraft would be crashing into us all at that point . So even these officers are not stupid.

But i started with micro's and as I age it gets harder and harder to maintain the field and fly there, I assume at some point
I will not be able to do so, So...my yard seems to be the place I will eventually end up, so Micro quads and planes will be
the new plan . As that s what i have been flying lately anyway.

Got a little video of the Wilga, flies great just can not land it at all...If it touches the ground in any manner it flips...lol

and I repaired the Blue and white Yak and was going to fly it, but after fixing the landing gear and new wheels
as I tried to take off it would not roll...so i was trying to loosen the wheels up to do so one fell off

But i have been flying the two UMX sport cubs I own and flying FPV
I do have some headcam vids as well and I have a video up flying the ET 125 quad with the Keycam mounted on it and the DVR footage

may invest in a small UMX Timber as it appears to fly very well, has flaps and is a STOL plane
and it is micro...SO....guess most of my models will be ceiling dust collectors for awhile ..LOL


I have used SAFE tech for many years now, in honesty I find it easy to use
I switch it off on occasion, but most of the time I just leave it on......

Winds horrible here, so no flying again....

Hello Ed ,i have seen some good vids of the micro timber ,seems a solid performer ,not cheap though  i think the prices of the micros is creeping up . The manufacturers are not stupid  if the weight limit of our planes has to come down to satisfy regulations we will have to end up paying the same for the micros as we did for say dynam planes.And yes the micros do benefit from as3x  ,as it allows them to fly like the big boys ,with less problems from the wind . I did try to assign a switch for the safe ,on the radian  ,did what it said  and put the bind plug in until the light flashed ,then took the plug out and turned on the tranny with the bind button pressed .Then it mentions that to assign a switch ,you have to turn on tranny and put both sticks to the center and down ,whilst turning your desired switch on and off five times. This i think gave me safe extreme  ,and when flying the radian it was so restrictive on the elevator  and motor power that i got no fun out of it. I must be doing something wrong .Having said that i am binding a spectrum receiver to an orange  tx6i ,mind you it works perfect when i bind it normally ,obviously the radian needs no stabilization ,but the as3x is an added bonus in heavy wind.It would be better to have the safe linked up to a 3 position switch ,so that i could shoot the plane up to height ,level off and dump the power ,and switch to safe in order to slow the control surfaces down so if i do find a thermal ,i will be able to make small movements in order to keep it in the bubble. Anyway have you got any ideas for what i am doing wrong on the bind stage. chris

well reading the manual it states this For SAFE Binding

Leave transmitter ( radio ) off but make sure throttle is at lowest level

Install bind plug in the Rx bind port

Place Radian on level ground

Then connect the battery , then the ESC will make it's 3 beeps for battery cell count and then 1 beep for ESC is armed

The light on the receiver will flash real fast ( orange it says )

Then REMOVE the bind plug from the bind port

walk away from the plane a few steps

then turn on the radio while holding the BIND Button/switch on the radio ( or however it tells you in the TX manual )

it will be bound when you see the Orange light stays solid

The ESC will make a series of sounds

3 flat tones followed immediately by 2 descending tones
Rx is armed providing the throttle and trim is low enough

To know if it is in SAFE mode every time you power in the Rx
the control surfaces will cycle back and forth TWICE
with a slight pause at neutral position that indicates SAFE is on

That is the Binding procedure for SAFE ( it is different for without SAFE )

But the process to set the switch

you can choose whatever switch BUT you have to make sure the travel for that switch
is 100 % Plus + and Minus - ( it can be any channel that is 5 thru 9 )

Hold Both transmitter sticks to inside bottom corners and then
Toggle whatever switch you choose 5 times ( make sure it is a full toggle )

Then the control surfaces of the plane should move showing the switch is selected


and the SAFE select only has one SAFE set up...it is NOT like the older version
that had Beginner mode- intermediate mode- and then expert mode

It has SAFE on and SAFE Off, that's it

and I think when SAFE is on , it is closer to what use to be intermediate mode
still has limits but not as restrictive as the older version that had 3 modes
which are beginner-intermediate and experienced....they eliminated the beginner mode I think

But if you are not use to SAFE it is awkward to use at first as one is use to having full control
now when you move the stick the surfaces barely move limiting the control surfaces
So you have to adjust you stick input or lack there of...

anyway will allow you to take off with it on and then when you get it in the air
you can turn it off and do your normal flying and then switch it on for example'
if you get in trouble and let go of the sticks and it will level itself out
or use it when landing to have wings level landings....SAFE is great once you get use to it
one can manipulate it to do different things at different times

Do a loop for example and once coming out go to SAFE and let go of the sticks and the plane will
right itself, same with rolls or whatever...

and yeah AS3X makes flying in stiffer winds a lot easier..even on these micro's
the plane will bounce but constantly is correcting to stay level and stable...

I believe we are about to see an influx of all micro pilots. As the Government entities
continue to screw up the hobby the small UMX or Sub 250 gram aircraft/ quads will be the only thing
many will be able to fly as they are not regulated nor do you have to register when you fly them
and can be flown in ones own backyard ....no need for large parks or flying fields to fly in .
And you are right the prices have jumped way up for sure .

But I assume because they may become the norm, they will start regulating them to.
They may swear they are causing gnat or mosquito deaths or maybe killing bee's....

Thanks Ed ,i did read the instructions  sort of   , i forgot the 100% travel bit , i shall try it again.If  us flyers are going to be pushed into smaller ,lighter aircraft  the only people allowed to fly our usual favourites ,will be the  old boys at the AMA ,BMFA  flying clubs ,and they hate foam flyers.If the modeling industry loses  custom ,and lets face it  rc flying is a niche sport ,then no legislation will be needed  the planes will not be there to buy and the makers will not invest in new planes. Something positive has to happen eventually  surely , hope so anyway

Well I think a lot of things is trial and error with the FAA here

We know they can barely manage manned aircraft as they continue to have so many issues ...
I think they are just appeasing entities like the AMA and Amazon and Google the ones wanting to control the airspace
as they are the ones lobbying the FAA to get their way.

Seems they may get it worked out, but at this point i am not sure I will even try to register with the FAA again when mine
runs out next year, really depends on what happens this summer . As I age seems flying smaller stuff is easier
and less hassle ( unless it's windy ) and just as fun and in most cases much more fun .

I think the biggest issue is making the RC aircraft have the same identification as manned aircraft
the Law in 2012 section 336 kept it separate and the FAA from changing it and defining it...the new law in Oct.2018
basically repealed 336 and allows the FAA to define it all the same and make rules similar .
I could agree with that to a point as they should have the same protections, But not define them in a way
that makes RC pilots the same as manned aircraft pilots . The idea to learn sectional maps and airspace
definitions yada yada,,,,,I fly toys on my property basically, i do not fly several tons of fuel over millions of people ..

Anyway...the FAA also mentions the RC manufacturers

*Section 2203 of the FAA Extension, Safety, and Security Act of 2016 (P.L. 114-190) requires manufacturers of small unmanned aircraft to make available to the owner, a safety statement that satisfies requirements detailed in that section. Although compliance with this provision of the Act is not yet required, the FAA encourages all small unmanned aircraft system manufacturers to begin making safety statement information available

Would seem if a manufacturer and a CBO can simply create a safety guide or an explanation of safety to a consumer
it would seem to me all the consumer needs is to obey it and do it.

WHY, does the consumer have to jump through hoops just to enjoy the hobby ... no one else does ?

IF people are forced into AMA sites then how come the AMA is not responsible for what happens in them ?

Just seems to me there is to many people at the FAA who are clueless to what is really needed and even tho at times
they ask for community comments, they seem to never follow any of them and are allowing people like the AMA and Amazon
and Google the Large Big money Commercial entities dictate what needs done instead of the hobbyists themselves

and when i wrote to the FAA last year to define the terminology of with in the programming of a CBO
they did not answer until last month this year and said because 336 was repealed my question was moot ...

Then when i questioned the move to force people into fixed sites and all of them AMA
why when the FAA does not recognize a CBO, can they force people to joining one in order to fly
and IF they give permission with a Letter Of Agreement ( LOA ) for a club how do i get a LOA to fly
at my own location ? all the questions I asked were avoided and not addressed and they simply stated
the current position of no one in controlled airspace can fly except in fixed sites the FAA has chosen.

Goes to show it has become a racket for them...and some say it is not about money , but their own records show
over 1+ million people have registered and at $5.00 US dollars a piece that is a huge chunk of change not to mention
the thousands who also paid $150.00 US dollars to take the part 107 test and get licensed to fly commercially

that is MILLIONS of dollars the FAA made off this Hobby within a few months time .

And we all know the Government is never satisfied and they will raise those rates at some point and we
still are required to take a test soon...and we do not know how much that will cost yet

needless to say it is maddening, makes me rant over it...

anyway ...makes me angry ,

But will have to try and get some understanding of the legality of what they are doing
and why the RC Hobby Lawyers have not stepped up and fought some of this

I have asked hobby shop owners ( online ) and a few of those Lawyers who do fly, Why they have not
got together and went to DC and demand to be heard on all this, and so far I have not gotten one
response from any of them . We all made a mistake here by being a part of the AMA at one point and
thought they were representing the Hobbyists , we found out they only cared about themselves.

And worse when you show AMA members those facts they do not care ( some deny it )...there lies the problem and why
this Hobby is being stolen away...same happened with Hunters, Fishermen, boaters, campers etc etc
every hobby one has the Government steps in and regulates the fun out of it...and charges the people large fee's or
charges for something.......
