Just got the beaver back together after my last bit of "pilot error," i think the squirrels have moved home ,too dangerous up that tree . youtu.be/lPah_-Qkz-M

The beaver is a confusing plane to say the least, yes it is the original "stol" plane and it can fly slow with the flaps, but it does bite. i start all turns with rudder and balance it out with opposite aileron . you cant drop a wing on final approach to loose speed and height, unless you want to loose all of it ,like crash. so the stol for me means keeping it in a straight line on takeoff and landing. but of course i forget ,especially if i have been flying something like the wot4 ,because you cant really stall it at all, this is the difference between sport and scale,it takes more concentration. but the beaver has been tip stalled, launched from a pond and landed in a tree behind me , been cartwheeled with the floats on ripped the floats off and the mountings, and of course rammed into a tree trunk, and it still comes back for more. but did you see the speed of it downwind ,glad to get her down in one piece

The beaver was flying nice,so i took it out for an evening flight tonight, nice take off but i had a couple of shaky moments ,whilst up high and turning, she was flipping ,but being high enough i had time to correct .but then when i was coming to land, i was just about to flatten out the turn ,when it flipped in by itself. it flys so nice when its up there but its stressfull any where near landing, i dont know if i will rebuild it or not this time . youtu.be/hKrqHqooXIo

Hello Ed , yeah the beaver is banged up some ,the wings are ok and the fuse back to the tail is good, but from the wing seat forward is not pretty. i am beginning to wonder if the flaps played some part in all of this, perhaps one side got stuck down a bit, there was no chance of recovering any flying ability once the stall started , its a pity the plane was very good looking a couple of years ago when i first got it

Yeah i have several planes which started off as dynams ,and end up constructed with bamboo skewers, meccano fastenings, hot melt glue of course, the hot melt provides an instant bond with flexibility, but becomes messy over time and gives not much strength. i find epoxy gives great strength ,but is very brittle and subsequent damage causes large pieces of the foam to come away ,making rebuild more difficult. but i have found that with acrylic water based paints ,a lot of repair can be covered up especially camo war birds.i suppose it is a question of at what level the flyer considers the plane to be either structurally compromised ,or visually unacceptable, this is why i tend to avoid "pretty scale planes", as they loose their visual effect a lot quicker with repairs ,i didn't follow my own advise with the beaver ,i just fell in love with it and it came home with me, still think it looks best on the floats. its just more annoying watching its looks disappearing , of course the remedy for all of this would be for me to learn to fly in the first place,i wouldn't need repairs then . one of the stranger glues i tried was gorilla glue , i could never judge how much water to sprinkle on to activate the glue, it seems nothing is happening so i add a bit more h2o ,and go back ten mins later and its like an explosion in a cement factory

Yeah I like gorilla glue
realized by the same trial and error
taking a paper towel and wetting it and just rub a tad of moisture on the damaged area and then apply very thin glue, is far more than enough
I like using toothpick to apply it, seems to work the best
That is how my Yellow/Gray Yak looks
cracked the wing and put gorilla glue and to much water it can be seen very well...lol
But i like flying it up and spiraling down...sometimes I do not pull up fast enough...all and all it still flies very nice

Talking about the not pulling up quick enough , i tried something similar with a supercub , i did ten inside loops in a row then decided fair enough i will do an outside one, i remember taking it home in three pieces . cheers for the tip with gorilla glue ,i shall try that if i ever need to repair a plane again , who am i kidding ,when i crash again
