I always prefer the hurricane,it has a more benign reputation for looking after its pilots,an inexperienced pilot could well come back,with the airframe shot full of holes,the bullets passing straight the fabric covering.unless the rounds came from a 109 ,or an fw 190 of course,then the pilot would be praying. for a friendly spitfire .there was a famous incident right at the start of the war,known as the battle of barking creek .at the time not all the Raf fighters had been fitted with "iff",detection equipment.a squadron of hurricanes patrolling in the Thames estuary ,where bounced by a flight of" spits", the "spits" being vectored to an incoming hostile formation, blue on blue
