well as I have not flown much due to laziness and weather mostly

My last outing was FPV on a UMX Sport Cub S ......
was very fun to do that , enjoyed it a lot

Only issue with the UMX is the wind even smaller winds can push it about

So I decided to break out my New Yak 12 and retire Ol Franken Yak
as he would not turn right without becoming a lawn dart
did not know why at the time

Anyway....I took Ol Frankie apart and stored the fuse and wing away just in case ( it had been battered )

put the New Yak together did very well

But , I also learned the reason for Ol Frankie's issues ( I think )
for some reason I used a extension wire on the ailerons and as I put this new Yak together
I had to install flaps as this one did not come with them .

I installed everything and hooked up that same wire to the flaps ( as the ailerons do not need an extension)
and as I was trying to set them up...the wire worked intermittent and wanted to turn the servo one way and not the other
I disagreeumption is one wire must have a short or intermittent issue as evidently did not allow one aileron
on Ol Frankie to work...( as I also use Rudder all the time in turns ) it would turn some with rudder, but when
applying RIGHT Aileron it was not working and thus sending me into the ground ? Well that is what I think...lol

anyway a new extension on the flaps , they work perfectly .

all systems go...and I ran up the motor before installing cowl and prop..however
once the cowl and prop was installed I now have a Vibration and it is really
noticeable ( I have that SAME style Vibration ) on my Wilga ..changing a prop did not help it
and have not figured out the why...I fly it like it is..BUT with this Yak I want to use FPV
and do not want the camera to have that vibration bouncing it about and causing bad video

Now I have to figure out what it is ( I still have all the Frankie Yak parts it never had that vibration )
may have to change motors.

But also this Yak came with weights already installed in the nose area under the motor in the foam
The old one ( Frankie ) had a hole in which I placed the ESC....and with the new one that hole is
filled with weights, I just mounted the ESC flat underneath the motor and taped it down, makes the cowl
tight ( may be causing the vibration perhaps ? )....on Ol Frankie i had to put weight on either side of the motor
to get the CG correct....this one has weights mounted for that purpose already it seems ( will do a CG check later )

funny how the same model has different things even from the same manufacturer . O well...is what it is

I enjoy the Yaks...sad to know they are not being made anymore
it is an excellent flying plane and is so relaxing and enjoyable and just the right size
to throw it about in my Unique small field .

SO...that is where I am this New Year...laid the Yak aside a few days will do some vibration inspections
and CG set up in the coming days

Hope many of you are getting some air time...as I now watch it snow a little ..again...LOL

Well i am trying my best on the video front without much success, i flew the yak into the ground  too much wind for it ,then i put the se5a up,i have not flown this for a while ,didn't give it enough power on take off ,she limped around and went in, snapping the wing struts ,this really upset me as you can imagine.so i brought the hubsan back down from its camera platform position ,flipped the gps switch off  and hugged the deck  about 2ft up.I posted it through a goal post flat out and was lining her up for the next one,got carried away  ,the quad was tilted so far forward that it caught the grass and               snapped the right hand A prop ,of course i have no spare left. When the quad has an unplanned landing" crash",it stops all recording and shuts down to save the motors ,all you do is inspect for damage ,unplug batty  plug back up and away you go, if you have another piggin A blade of course. i am bidding on some replacements on e-bay ,different coloured ones to make it easier to see when its in shadow ,or low light conditions. What a difference from last week ,this fantastic hobby takes you from delight to despair in seconds,but i would not change it for anything ,just makes the good days worth more  , so anyway no vids .  all the best chris

Sorry to hear about all those mishaps...seems that happens to us all
every other day...

well decided to try and find out why the vibration...changed props no good
decided to change motor ( as the old motor never had a vibration ) installed it
still vibrates even without prop on , can feel it in the fuselage ...

was getting frustrating. .So I was about to give up and thought I am just going to put the
old prop on and hang it on the ceiling......But ran up the motor and No vibration

so am clueless as to why that is...so put different new ones on and still vibration
put old used banged up prop on...smooth as silk...

SO....even the feel in the fuse is different...it is crazy .

But now all is well....

now all we need is beautiful weather to give it a try

Hello  Ed, the se5a is in surgery ,hopefully she will fly again ,the yak is in recovery ,the hubsan is awaiting an infusion of props.Actually i had a bit of deal with them ,4 sets  ,16 props for£6 four different colours ,if they arrive all will be ok.Just a thought about the vibration on your yak, not possibly the springs behind the motor mount,perhaps one getting bent and causing vibes .chris

Hey Chris,

yeah I thought the same thing as I noticed on my old Yak the springs were shorter
than the new one...But, changing them or tightening and loosening did not help

it is odd, just placing the old prop on makes it go away ? really strange
I tried every new prop I had, they all vibrate and it is loud and noticeable

put this old prop on and it is smooth and quiet ?

I have a new mount, started once to change it..But now it is fine...hope I never break this prop
so far the prop saver has worked like a dream

I have a prop balancer here somewhere...probably packed away ( as I have never used one )

but these props have a solid middle, the center is suppose to pop out, ( hope they do )
have never had to balance a prop before....

well I will see how it does when ever the weather allows
had snow and freezing rain and cold...

flying may be awhile...

Hello ED ,we had a break in the weather  over here on Sunday ,i managed to get three flying sessions in , not without incident of course. I was flying the acrowot ,doing aerobatics  i put it into a loop ,got her just over the top and pointing at the ground ,when the receiver blacked out,luckily it was out of the field at this time and over the scrubland with long grass. The acrowot now has a receiver from  a visionaire, the repaired re-flight will be aerobatic  if nothing else. i also managed to fly the fw190, the yak 12 and the tiger moth, videos to come ,you know how long it takes me.Anyway have you had any" flying luck"  chris

No flying here...we have had rain to snow and now bitter cold temps....high today was about 14 degrees
night temps have been near zero (actually it said minus 1 last night)

windchills have been below zero

suppose to warm up a tad for a few days then back to yet another cold blast by weeks end

What an An2 slipped by me, that was indeed a short clip ,nice plane wonder if its the maxford one.He didn't show the landing,perhaps its still crop dusting somewhere

Yeah Ed ,i mostly fly the quad on gps lock ,its still quite nippy  but then the dark side takes over  and before i can stop it the left digit has flicked the gps switch off ,and its game on  just off the deck flat out. Last time i tried this  after coming through a goal post ,i cranked it over and took out two right hand props at once, god knows how low it was when i turned, i mean we must stay below 400ft , but i hit the ground . I have some vid to put up when i get round to it ,on the golf course going under a footbridge, risking everything  the quady dont like wet. I have had a prop infusion over the last few days ,so i can try different coloured blades to help out with orientation at distance,not flown it for a couple of weeks. all the best chris

Hello Ed , i have put another vid up with the 501  . i have not been flying much as my mother passed away  and i have been arranging things for the funeral  ,proper knocked me for six . I need to get flying again to  get my mo-jo back ,anyway i hope you enjoy the vid my friend .chris

Hello Ed , just to settle my mind i decided to go flying  ,i started with an aerobatic arcus biplane ,took off alright  but then i piled it in . Then i put my acrowot up later in the afternoon  ,went up alright but she didn't fly as she usually does ,ended up flying out of the park and crashing god knows where . So i walked back to get the 501 ,for a search and rescue ,no sign of the acrowot, so i started playing  following a pathway by a stream that led to a footbridge ,as i  piloted the 501 over the bridge  a gust of wind  caught it and over it went ,still not found it  i assume it went into the muddy stream.Is somebody trying to tell me something

geesh , when it rains it pours.

not sure if someone is telling you something or warning you...

seriously, I hate hearing that, always the fear in the back of ones mind while flying
