At last, something to post.
Over the winter, I decided to redo the electrics on the old cub LP to bring her to DSMX standard while maintaining brushed power and 3ch control - to teach my son to fly using the wireless buddy system between my new DX9 and the old DX6i. My son is 9 and keen on RC cars, wanting to start flying.
I used a Turnigy ESC and an Orange RX - but on the test flight with no child present, the signal was awful even though the range test was fine. Was barely able to get 200m without brownouts. Very disappointing, so replaced the receiver with a Spektrum AR400 and all is now fine. Full range back and I was happy to let the lad have a try.
But then the British weather stopped play - until today.
Perfectly still and pleasantly warm.
Off to the field we went with;
Supercub LP
Sportcub
Dynam T28
Eflite Bonanza
3x 1350mah, 6x 2200mah, 2x 4250 mah 3 cell batteries
Dx6i
Dx9
Excited child and his Helion RC buggy with 3 batteries.
I went first and had a flight with each of the Sportcub, T28 and Bonanza - was absolutely perfect conditions and the first time the T28 has flown well (its a very difficult plane to trim due to a couple of design flaws), by which time he had drained 2 of his batteries and was itching to play planes
So, I took off with the supercub and handed control to him - nervous to start with and then flying like he'd been doing it years. All too soon the timer was exhausted and I took control to land it. Quick battery change and he performed a nice take off and 12 minute flight before I again landed it.
My turn, I went through the remaining 4x 2200 and 1x 4250 batteries in the faster planes while he used his last car battery - saving the last 1350 for a final flight in the supercub.
The boys a natural, and he'll be trying a landing before long
A fantastic afternoon!
