New Super Cub Build

I have enough airframe parts to build another Super Cub

I really like this plane and I have the Older Stock 3 ch one and still flies great

But i also decided to go ahead and build another one.

This one will have ailerons- a Brushless motor and a separate ESC and perhaps flaps ( not sure yet )

I went ahead and ordered the parts from Heads Up Rc

they have a complete listing of what one needs to accomplish that

from the Motor mount to the prop..

other than the Champ, the Super Cub was my first planes
I still have them both

The Champ gave up the Ghost awhile back but still hangs in my ceiling
the super Cub rarely gets flown and it also hangs beside the champ
sentimental aircraft, but made my dream of flight become a reality

I have moved on to various models and fly several different ones when the weather permits

But looking at the Sc just hanging and knowing how good the airframe of this model is
I decided to make a brushless one

a Mod so many have done over the years......

I am not going to flatten the wing...i am just going to fix ailerons on the wing as is
thinking about Flaps as well, slotted flaps perhaps

I use Rudder a lot on most all my planes anyway...having the wing as is will enhance the use of rudder
as the 3 ch type, but also give enough aileron to make the turns flatter I believe

That is my intentions anyway

as parts come in and I get to do this project

I will post it here

also have a few other projects I am also trying to do as well

a few irons in the fire for sure

Good to see some people still coming here - I only haven't posted because I haven't had any news, due to lack of flying - hopefully the weather as turned a corner though.

btw...I now have all the parts for this Cub...BUT..I want to paint it first

Thinking about some Bright Yellow...may mix it with the white foam already on the airframe.

Wondering what type of paint to use on this type foam

Only luck I have had on foam is the little bottles of acrylic craft paints
seems the only one that does not damage the foam....takes more to cover as it is thin
but does a good job

but was wondering if some enamel house paint would work as well ?

Or what maybe some good paints others have used instead ?

Not something I've done, painting foam... But it would seem that mixing PVA glue with the paint would make it tougher. Assuming PVA doesn't hurt the foam, that is.

I decided to paint the Top of the wing and fuselage Orange .....does not look to bad

However...I normally cut out Ailerons and Flaps and leave so much foam still attached

I have been watching some videos and most cut them completely...I decided to do that ( geesh what a mistake )

Now my hands are shaky and using Blenderm tape and trying to get it lined up....was/ is so frustrating

pulled paint , can't get it to line up.....I had to walk away....

It is a start....will have to go back to it in a day or two

will provide some pics when i can

Sorry for not posting about the build....I started on it and ran into a couple issues

but then many other things have occurred with family and illnesses and now I lost a very Close Uncle

I started the build awhile back in July and first of August .

As noted above I watched some vids and tried to do what others had done

it did not come out well at all...shaky hands sticky tape just frustrated me

I knew not to go that route as i normally do not, but I thought i would try

tape stuck to fingers pulled paint off, could not get it lined up correctly

I cut out for both flaps and ailerons

you can see the mess I made of it....I have another wing and I am going to use it
and do it the way I should have to start with

Will eventually fix the wing i started on just in case...But I think i may get me some
other hinges ( glue type ) to try and then use the tape

You can see I made a place to mount my Rx on the battery tray top
same as the others, I just cut out the plastic battery try to mount
my battery in it, like i did my original one

Will post more when i start in it again, just thought i would show
what i had done

I like the color scheme.
Will it be unfeasible to touch up the paint, then re-tape?

I know there is a Krylon spray paint that is foam safe, Fuzion it's called maybe.

Yeah i can re-do it and re-paint it and even over the tape if i have to.

It's just I could not get the pieces i cut to line up for nothing...lol

I'll get it right eventually

Yeah i like that orange and also how it looks painted on with a brush

I have a new bird coming in this week. I'll try to get some pics up of it.

This has been a very slow project as so many things going on

But here is a little more I have managed to accomplish

I installed the Mount and the Motor and also the ESC , had to cut out a slot to house it in

I installed the Tail feathers and the Landing Gear .

I think I may put a black pin strip right along the Orange color

what do you think , would it look better or leave it as is ?

I think a pinstripe would set it off nicely - theres a little feathering between the colours at the moment.
