I've retired, and have been looking around for something new to occupy my time. I've been lucky enough to find a friendly local club and have had my first flight on a buddy box. I did pretty well, didn't crash it and only had to have my trainer take it back twice, despite the windy day.
I'm starting to research specific planes, and the super cub looks like it might make a good second trainer for me. At my age, I'm no longer as cocky as I was, nor am I quite as quick, so a powered glider like the Bixler(?) 3 might be my first bird. The faster cub might be more than I want to tackle at the moment. We'll see. I'll do more research, and with the club's help hopefully try out a few more aircraft over the next couple of months.

Welcome....and what were you flying on the buddy box ?
The Super Cub is a pretty docile plane...it now comes with a SAFE Rx system which helps beginners to not over control the plane it is a 3 channel plane ( throttle-rudder-elevator ) it has 3 modes..-Beginner-intermediate-Experienced and it also has a panic button which will level the plane if you get it out of shape. It has AS3X, helps handle the winds in flight
many are going with the Apprentice S...it is a 4 channel plane and it also has SAFE...so you can grow with it ( throttle -ailerons-rudder-elevator )
It has 3 modes of operation...Beginner mode-Intermediate mode and - experienced mode, it also has AS3X to help fly in some windy conditions it also has a panic recovery button in case you get the plane out of shape it will automatically level the plane
since you are flying at a club field either one would be a great plane to learn on and since someone is helping you, it would be easier for you to learn
The Cub s built like a tank, it can take a beating
I do not own an Apprentice, but those who do love it
just a couple of suggestions
hope that may help

IIRC, It was a Bixler powered glider With a form of the SAFE setup. There was enough wind that it took 20 to 30 degrees of crab to parallel the runway.

Bixlar is a nice model...i think they have 3 versions of it now
It is nice to train on, it is pretty docile and gives one time to react
I am not into that style of plane either...but I hear it is great platform for learning
ultimately, only you can choose what you want to go with
since you are at a club you may get some advice and suggestions from your local friends as well as they i am sure have flown many types
you can't go wrong with a super cub or a bixlar or even the apprentice...they all have their good points
