The DOT/FAA here in the States has issued the Final Rule on Model aircraft and are requiring a Registration on Dec 21,2015 Because they have claimed so many "drones" are endangering or potentially endangering manned aircraft in the airspace they needed to do something Their idea was make hobbyists register to use their models One does not have to register every model, basically just register yourself and they give you a number to place on All your models Similar to the "N" number on most all manned aircraft that is registered in the states they go over every concern and comment so many made about it and they address each one and give their final rule on it the Document is 211 pages but worth reading if you have the time . Although i do not agree with it all, it is pretty fair and it does not cause us hobbyists any real problem at the moment. here is the link to the DOT/FAA Final rule www.faa.gov/news/updates/media/20151213_IFR.pdf

Thanks for posting the link to the actual document. It will be an interesting read! I am not actively flying the Super Cub, but I would like to get back into hobby.
The picture is also an interesting illustration of the irony involved with this latest policy!

I think in this case it's not the "worthless government" so much as the (unfortunately complex) response of the government to stupid people that insist in flying planes and ESPECIALLY drones in places and ways that are very dangerous and completely unacceptable to ANYONE with functioning brain cells. Like almost any human endeavor there seem to be some small but not insignificant percentage of people that screw it up for everyone else. This is for everything from RC planes/drones to finances to politics to...well, everything. Note - my wife thinks ALL drones should simply be shot out of the sky with shotguns. Simple, effective, permanent. Where's the argument with that, unless it's your drone?

From what I can tell a super cub wouldn't need to be registered, correct? On the other hand, my flyzone beaver which is roughly 3 pounds would need to be. Am I correct in assuming this? Really not looking forward to this - what might they come up with next to ruin this hobby?

I think the Super Cub weighs more than 0.55 pounds (250 grams) which means it would have to be registered. I may be incorrect. Anyone else want to "weigh" in?
I went to the FAA website this morning and it seems that the registration link is not active yet. Has anyone registered successfully?
Thanks, Scott
