I received my brushless/esc combo today and had a question.. On one side of the speed controller there are three wires(power, ground, receiver). On the other side there are three wires, but all black.. What gives??? I realize that assumption is the mother of all ?*&&-ups, but is this the motor side correct??? Are the outer wires just for direction of rotation??? Is that they are not color-coordinated??? Thanks in advance for any answers.

Just simply hook them all up. If the prop is spinning in reverse simply switch any 2 wires and it will run in the opposite direction and off to the sky.

Yeah, pretty helpful, huh? On BL there are always 3 wires. Weirdly it really doesn't matter which order they are hooked up to the motor. If the prop runs the wrong way just switch 2 as mrmurgen indicates. Remember the ESC will need programming (probably) to know what power source (lipo/NiXX), brake, timing, etc. you are using. How you do this depends on the ESC. The cheaper ones generally have some "beep tones" poorly explained on a sheet of "chinglish".
