After smashing my Cub to bits, I've decided to use normal R/C gear in the Cub v2. I've got a Micro 05S receiver, two HS-81 servos, the stock batteries, and motor.
I have a spare E-Flite 10 A ESC hanging around - so with the fact that I'm going to continue to use the NiMH batteries and the stock motor - will that be enough of a speed control?
Do I need more coverage? According to E-flite, "For use with Speed 400 motors and below." And the motor is listed as 480. So, with that, should I jump up to the ESC that covers amove the 480 (the 30A ESC)?
Regards, -Sam

Have a look at the Kontronik sun 1000. Its rated at 18amp and will cover 400 - 480 motors. There is a member here that uses one (bigtone). IMO. Kontronik are one of the best for motors and esc's. As far as E flite. I would'nt use another one of there esc's even if i were given one for free. Just my opinion of course.

I have and use about 15 eflite esc's and have never had anything go wrong with them. I have never used the above mentioned esc but can tell you that it is under rated for these motors. You will need a 15 amp minimum.

I am getting a 25A E Flight tonight for mine. Thats what the LHS suggested. Its 36 bucks but it will handle LiPo's if/when i decide to upgrade to those...

It also has auto lipo detection so you don't have to set your LVC for every different battery you may run. Good choice.

I am sure you will be one of the thousands nay millions of happy users of the E flite esc. I just happen to be one of the un-happy few.

lol @ fire extiguisher. I dont care who you are thats funny! hehe
I guess its like any other electronics. They WILL fail. its just how often that matters most I guess. Generally people say they are pretty decent setups so I had to go with the majority
Now i through a wrench in the mix last night at the hobby shop. They have a BL motor for like 39.99 that would work with my cub. The esc for it is about the same price as the brushed esc... I didnt purchase anything yet but I have to decide do I want to go brushless now or wait and waste the 36 bucks on the brushed esc. Once I go brushless that one is useless... uggh!
Another part of this is if I do go brushless that means I HAVE to go Lipo he said. That means an expensive battery and a new charger.. This can start adding up REAL quick. All for a foam airplane! lol

Well he is yanking your chain about HAVE to go lipo. You can run BL systems off any type battery. They perform best on lipo but work just fine with nimh's.

So then maybe its NOT such a bad idea to go ahead and get a brushless motor and esc. I can run it on my NiMH and upgrade to Lipo when ready. Hmmmm, this is very very tempting... I think I will do it. Now I need to figure out which brushless motor to get... What motor did you have in that really fast fly by video? I want about 1/2 that speed lol...
