I've been following a build thread over at rcgroups of a 1954 Berkley's Custom Privateer. It is a balsa/plywood seaplane, looks like a 120" span 1430 Sq In. wing. He's converting it to electric with ailerons/rudder/elevator. Originally, if I'm reading correctly, It was a single channel tx/rx aircraft. So I did a bit of google-ing and found these guys in the UK. singlechannelVery interesting stuff on there on how it all worked. I am quite humbled at the origins of our hobby and how "easy" we have it now.

That's incredibly interesting. Some good ingenuity.
Makes the DX6i that I consider basic look positively space-age.
Good find!

I never dealt with a single channel, I have heard if it. My first planes were only Two Channel . ( Rudder-Elevator ) The fuel engine ran until it ran out and the first electric ran until the battery ran out ( or that was the idea ) Unfortunately I never kept mine in the air long enough to get that far back then . Maybe if I had all the info like today it may have been different ( who knows ? ) But all this new technology has allowed me to fly, I do not want to go back to the "Stone Age " as it were. But it is a good read.

Fascinating read and good grief it's not that long ago either. I understand life began less than 20 years ago, everything before that people won't talk about, or it's ancient history. At least that is what i hear all the time. I am a dinosaur and suppose to be extinct ...."stone age "...I thought I would use that term in my analogy.

I for got to add the build thread, if anyones interested. Berkley's Custom PrivateerThe fuselage/hull is 92" in length. I couldn't imagine flying something like that, off of the water, one channel.

If I was going to build that large a plane, I will go a little bigger and just build one I can ride in. LOL
