Well, I have run out of room to put my SC's and friendly other planes out on display in my home. I decided I could probably hang them up to the ceiling out in my garage to be out of the way, but still easy to access when I want to. I didn't want to ruin the ceiling in any manner, as my home is leased and not really my own. No storage area out there or shelving to let them roost upon in a static display. The hangars I have seen are generally those that screw into a ceiling, but have the clip that spreads. They usually require a pretty large hole to be drilled and they are not all that cheap to begin with.
I am thinking I can use some wallboard anchors which are #6 nylon ones. They come in a package of 3 and inclued the screws. I am figuring I can install them into the ceiling and with the screws not inserted, they don't leave such an ugly site there as those hooks would do. I can easily wrap a piece of long fishline around the screw and tighten it down enough to hold the weight of the plane. With that line hanging down, I should be able to secure it to the plane in a manner that allows me to remove the plane easy enough when necessary. I have some thoughts on how to do this, but they are difficult to explain. Any rate, they should hang up high enough to not block my side of the garage from anything, as I do not park a car on that side, but just my trailer. if the grandkids don't use them as pinatas, then I guess I am home free with them hanging. The real trick is to make sure that the fishline is secure in holding the plane and easy to remove when you need to use the plane.
I am wondering how you guys deal with a bunch of planes and storing them in your man cave or home? What tricks do you use to hang up your planes as I have mentioned? Any photos to share?
*** I do not trust those Command hook ups which use the stretchable tape stuff to secure or remove, as I have had them fail in the past and ruin a couple of photos.
