Well - I finally started. I wanted to get further, and get the tail feathers on - but what the manual calls a "hexagonal key" bolt, is actually a star shaped bolt head. New tools required!
But, I did get the tailcone and 2 servos and pushrods fitted. Man this plane is made well, but it sure is nerve racking when the first instruction is to cut!
In this second shot you can see the servo has some plastic bits embedded under it. Because I'm using a different servo to the kit recommendations, it sits lower than the rod wants to - so rather than bend the rod (which I may yet do, there is space to do it and if I have enough adjustment at the tail feathers it makes sense) I have just put some packing under it. If the packing stays, it needs doing properly with wood - but this will allow the build to progress.
More updates as they happen - likely that progress will be slow, but I have plenty of time.

I am not going to knock the Build, i think it's great and cool
But it appears most of it is Built already out of the box.... : )
I can remember building every part and than adding covering near the end.
every piece of balsa, every spar , every rib....those were the days.
Why it was so disappointing when I watched them shatter.....why I am flying foam....lol
take your time, no need to hurry, building is allot of fun.

Well, payday for me is tomorrow and I already have plans on the purchase and subsequent build of a Dynam PBY Catalina. Can't wait to get started on the project and have already burned my eyeballs out in reading all the posts about them. Just like when I started reading up on the SC, over 450 pages on just one site, alone. Interesting reading though, as you can certianly pick out immediately who to trust on their comments and who to shy away from. Normal cat fights when two sage experts get their tail twisted about how to do things or what and what not the flight characteristics are for the plane. At least they had a winner of that argument and the other fellow was smart enough to agree and see things from his view. Can't wait to get started on the build. My wife may kill me first when she finds I have spent more money on another plane and all. At least I can still outrun her on a good day and I sleep with one eye open at all times. :-)

Looks fun sham and something to while away the cold/wet/windy winter. Me, I've taken up green wood working and just finished making a shaving horse. My Shaving Horse

Glad to see it coming along Sham. Looks a little too fragile for my skill set.

Shave horse looks good - another hobby to lose time with!
A little more progress with the Bonanza - the cockpit detail kit is fitted (I think its a crying shame this has to be bought separately), and the tail feathers are on. Also sorted the issue with the servo that didn't sit right, and all done. Next job is the nose gear servo and nose gear - going to wait until I am absolutely concentrated for that, it involves a great deal more cutting to make the well for the gear to sit in when retracted.
Anyway - this is how it looks at the moment..

A little more work done, the nose wheel servo and steering linkage is in place - and the nose retract is assembled. Surprising amount of work in those two little things. But, nothing worth taking photos of.
Next, I have to make the well for the nose wheel to retract into... gulp!

So... Nose wheel is finally fitted, and it retracts properly Pictures of the current state.
Inside - you can see the cable guide tube, steering cable and third servo
The underside of the nose, just begging for surgery
Not a bad job for a newbie...

And finally, with the nose wheel attached and a little trimming - it retracts nicely into place.
